Description
I’ve been drawing a lot of raptors lately - velociraptor, microraptor, bambiraptor - and playing around with them, giving them unique features and feathers. I don’t actually know that much about the established scientific facts surrounding their appearance, so I’m just speculating. One of the things I like doing is giving them the lips of eagles, and also... ears??
Well, why not?
I’ve never heard any evidence really debunking the existence of external ears in dinosaurs, but at the same time I’ve never seen any art that entertains the idea. Maybe it actually has been debunked and an eared velociraptor is no more plausible than a trunked diplodocus, but I felt like drawing it out.
Also, I came across this painting which gives dinosaurs ears quite seamlessly: fav.me/d5pziht
I looked around and it looks like the theory is that if any dinosaurs were to have ears, it would most likely be herbivorous dinosaurs.

So dinosaurs with external ears make them look mammalian?

Fleshy ears leave telltale markings on bones where the muscles that move them attach. Dinosaurs--and all archosaurs--lack such muscle attachment marks, so they did not have fleshy ears.

I drew fleshy ears. (although owl ear tufts would probably be way more plausible)

How are the muscles of fleshy ears gonna attach on the skull?

I get that this “theory” really doesn’t have any evidence behind it, I drew it mostly for fun. I was inspired by some of those wacky dinosaur theories from back in the day - like the fire breathing parasaurolophus and the flying stegosaurus.

Love your style tho
