Description

The drawn diagrams are mine, but the other art is from The Art of Legend of the Guardians, The Owls of Ga'hoole. Screenshot is from the movie.

Well, since that photo of the Legend of the Guardians battle claws was such a hit, I decided to draw a simple diagram on how the owls actually wear the claws.

The blades sit over the claws, and are dragged down by the talons hooking through the metal / leather hoops on the bottom. They're all held together with a leather glove, but the underside of the talons are bare, save for a strap going over the palm. Many of the claws also have a plate of metal protecting the leg.

It just hit me that a battle claw design is very close in resemblance to Freddy Krueger's bladed glove. 0_0

EDIT: What about the locking mechanism of single and doble action battle claw ? I ponder on that endlessiy trying to figure it out.

Interesting... Maybe that's where the artists got their inspiration.

I could never really picture battle claws from the description in the books.. I can sorta see how claws could lock in place, but isn't double-action a gun term?

Nice interpretation! I've always wondered if they'd function as gloves or strap-on/hoop pads. Now it definitively makes sense...
Thanks for the info!

I had a feeling that was how some of them worked, but I never drew them that way. Neat! I wonder how fire claws work...?

Small coals in the rims of the claws that make them ignite, it makes them more dangerous but at the expense of the wearers talons being injured. Is that what you wanted to know?

Yeah, that makes more sense than what I was thinking. Thanks!

I reckon the drag on the talon would hurt if it was a rough swipe //shivers
other than that I really dig the concept and it seems like a really cool addition to stryx as well
