Description
Okay, apart from a couple of new Pokémon, why don't we dive into the Jouen region itself a bit as well today?
This would be the in-game map (sans the proper background... also the location names would only appear as you move over their respective location. The route numbering continues the trend of Pokémon's gens 3 and 4 (gen 3 started with Route 101 and gen 4 started with Route 201, so it's only logical my first fake region begins its routes with 301, while the next project with start with 401)
Jouen's inland, similar to Sinnoh is split into western and eastern mountain ranges. Only this time it's a gigantic valley that cuts through the region's center. The origins of said valley are steeped in myth, something we will eventually get to with the legends around Project Prism's legendary Pokémon. Stay tuned for that!
Surrounding the inner mountains is the outer coastland, with wraps all around the region from the south-east around the western tip, to the north and then back east. It is said that in the early days of Jouen not a great many people lived in the central mountains but more so in the coastal areas. Today still, there are few settlements in Jouen's mountains.
Jouen has a varied Ecology, from the deciduous and bamboo-strewn forests of the west, the Wisteria groves and snow-capped peaks of the east, over emerald rice terraces in the southeas, and windswept hills above large caverns in the west, toward a vast lake in the north and sandy wastes in the northeast. There is more of course, but we will get to the details, once I get to (trying to) draw sketches of the different locations you see depicted here.
This map may seem a bit busy, I know, but I quite like it And there's a hole lot to do in Jouen!
Oh yeah! Jouen is a play on the japanese term Jouten (which means ascension) scrambling it a bit to reference Johto and Hoenn, which it would most likely be located in between, similar to the real-world Chugoku region lying in-between the Kansai and Kyushu regions respectively.
