Description If time doesn't last,
why do memories linger,
like the annoying kid
from fifth-grade
science class,
with greased black hair,
and the whiny voice
like pipe
hitting gravel,
                       tectonic shifting
                                                                        away
to leave
a gaping core
longing
for dirt?

The shovel
won't go away.
Buries you
alive.
Can't dig
beyond the dirt
beneath your
fingernails.
