Combine the speed and agility of a fighter aircraft and the versatility of a mobile suit, and the result is likely to be the NeoEarth RX-2. Designed to establish air-superioity and well as ground assault, the RX-2 is the first variable geometry mobile suit to be mass-produced. Unlike the later UNAF Z-series mobile suits that reconfigures the entire torso of the machine to form a stable airframe, the RX-2's body is designed with aerodynamic properties in mind. Because of its simple airframe configuration, the RX-2 is capable of rapid transformations for landing and taking off, making it extremely versatile on the battle field. Because the slim body of the RX-2 only has room for a few missile hard-points, all of the mobile suit's weapons are intergrated into the body, including the magnetically stablized 50 mm autocannon (Converted left arm), with optional bayonet attachments. Because this mobile suit is built to be fast, the armor plating is made up of 80% carbon fibre, this together with the RAM jets retrofitted from the X-003 (which weighs more than 2X the RX-2), means this mobile suit can reach speeds up to Mach 6. An upgrade project is planned to replace the RX-2 pilots with UCM systems.

As I had explained back at my account, this is Project Zephyr's signature baddie unit. It was meant to be built similar in specs to the UNAF Z-series machines, capable of matching them for speed and agility, and giving Rebecca, Meia, and Allen some serious problems. But in the original design, this thing looked shamefully pathetic. But no more, a complete over-haul, with a collapsable torso air-frame, ossilation-stablized solid-munition railguns, as well as new claws for tearing through armor, this new model of the Garuda is able to give Gundam-class mobile suits something to worry about.
