Description

The ultimate form of machine society has no organizations, no nations, no bounds, even though those remnants linger from the days before. The machines are goal-driven creatures, unlike the social-oriented humans that created them, and thus they form what is known as consensus.

Consensus is a common mission, an interpretation of which is shared between a number of machines. It has no representatives, no borders, no symbols. Membership is an unnecessary construct, as a machine is a member given that it moves in a shared direction.

Consensus may have spawned with human goals or even robotic leaders, but they have over time become something strange, new, and entirely unknowable. They have no clear divisions and are deduced by statistical analysis. The machines may not even know what they’re moving towards.

There is some sense of hierarchy, but that is defined by the level of privileged information a machine is authorized for, usually a function of its threat and value to the mission. Structure may be introduced based on the philosophy of a consensus, but it is not always present.

Some consensus conflict with each other upon collision, others are difficult to even discern. They are not static, as new knowledge and logic can shift the goal or the methods by which it is achieved.

Consensus are oceans and lakes and puddles, receding and flowing and ever-changing, their waters interwoven and overlapped. They are a glimpse at the future that awaits.
