Description Built from 1940's Soviet robotic technology, this was their attempt at creating super-soldiers by putting human brains into robotic bodies.

The text on his chest translates into "Death to Capitalism!" I originally had it saying "Death to America," but my Mom didn't even like me writing that because it's so evil, so I changed it.

And just so things are clear, everyone should be aware that in NO WAY do I support the Soviets or socialism/communism. The Soviets were some very evil people.

I know that is going to like this one!!

Cybermen are copyright of the BBC.

There's a decent episode concept in here. A human tyrant makes a deal with cybermen, offering up dissidents against their rule for conversion in exchange for being able to use a few of the resulting cyborgs as an untiring, uncomplaining slave labor force incapable of even thinking of rebellion.

This time, the cybermen have no intention of breaking their end of the bargain and forcibly upgrading their former ally since it's been going so well for them having large numbers of victims delivered in exchange for a bit of menial labor rather than having to go and try to hunt them down personally.

Sometimes Doctor Who is scariest when the real monsters aren't exactly monsters.

Considering that Genesis of the Daleks was modeled after Nazi Germany, it makes sense that the Cybermen would be modeled after Soviet Russia. Have you ever listened to Spare Parts?

I could see that, in another time, another place. As far as I'm concerned, all this would need to be a Who storyline is for John Lumic to have been Soviet. Bitter at his own disability and mortality, and fueled by party rhetoric? He might have gone through the Cyber-Conversion himself, were that the case.

Yes, it was...that movie could have been so cool, but it was ruined by pointless shit and a LACK OF ACTUAL SETS.

humm i always like to see actual fiscal stuff but it's amazing what they did with that movieon such a short budget i personaly loved the king kong, venture ship (the ship from king kong), Godzilla, cameos made in the film. I also loved the whole art deco/30's feel to the film

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Promus-Kaa In reply to baragon2001 [2009-09-26 04:03:44 +0000 UTC]

It wasn't done on a short budget, necessarily - it was done simply because they could. They wanted to make a point that 90% CG films could be viable. I would consider that they failed, since I hated the CG environments in that movie as much as I hated them in the Star Wars prequels. It just looks so fake!!

I loved the Art Deco stuff too, which makes it more of a shame that the movie wasn't made like a real movie. It should have had proper justice done to it!!

well what i say about cgi is it should be used at a last resort and i like movies that try to be diffrent and not mainstrem

Promus-Kaa In reply to baragon2001 [2009-09-26 21:55:31 +0000 UTC]

I agree that CGI shouldn't be used unless it's the only way to do something. CGI is what ruined the last Indiana Jones movie (and all the Star Wars prequels...).

lol... This is a cool picture and you could still put the American flag on him and it would be the same way other countries view us. Even though we're brainwashed to view ourselves as capitalists our government practices 7/10th of the Communist Manifesto. That's why I said 'lol...' ...

This really has nothing to do with politics - I just had an idea of taking the Doctor's two main adversaries (Daleks and Cybermen) and making them two big adversaries during/post WWII (Nazis and Soviets). I might do a Japanese Auton next, or something.

Yes, they were...especially in "Spearhead from Space," although "Terror of the Autons" is MUCH scarier.

YouTube has quite a few episodes, and sites that have movies and TV shows on them generally have a few. I'd check there; try to find some TV-Links alternatives (type that in a Google search).

I'm glad you like it.

I'm not sure what it runs on...but since it's more "dieselpunk" than "steampunk," I'd have to guess it runs on some sort of gasoline-driven dynamos. Maybe. Steam tech is my area of expertise...I don't do internal combustion!!

Not sure how "Death to america" is evil, or at least, any worse than death to anything.
I'm a socialist, but I don't support the USSR or any other "Communist" nation.

The USSR was evil not just for their goals, but for the actions they carried out against their own people and those who were around them.
