Description
"He is one of us"Second part of the lego series.
another serious issue -> discrimination
After drug abuse [link] I wanted to deal with discrimination.
I chose a black lego guy but of course there are other ways of discrimination. Doesnt matter why you discriminate someone. foreigner, gays, individualists, jews, muslims, christians, acitivists and even lefthanders have been discriminated in the history
I'm german so i know what i'm talking about
With this pic i want to show that discrimination is the most absurd and retarded way to treat a person
please let me know what you think
PS: expect part three very soon

Wow - when I was little my brother and I had huge boxes full of lego pieces.
We had lego skellitons, star wars, indiana jones, Harry Potter... but not one black lego figure. I guess it's little things like that, that get you thinking about the big picture.
Great photo

Hey, deutschlanter, don't you go hogging all the biggotry and racism! Us British people have had more than our fair share of that as well you know It's quite fun how the early church (by early i meant, in the 16th century) was speaking of racial discrimination as a virtue, and still speaks of wider discrimination in such terms. Itoo, believe that we all need to 'discriminate' people and that it is a virtue to do so. Discrimination is simply the act of deciding which is the better between two people. However, what this discrimination is based on is important. If it is based on predudice, as it is with racism and sexism and homophobia (like to see how you'd make that last one in lego
) it is wrong, though race and sex and orientation are not in themselves a bad means of discriminating, it's just when they're used predudically; if we have to choose the best person to do something one race, sex or orientation does better than any other, it's alright to discriminat e on such a basis, but i can't think of any such situation, so it surely isn't often the case that such things are good discriminatory tools. It can be the case, that with limited information, we can use infmormed steryotypes (as opposed to those not based on statistical analysis) to choose betweeen likely candidates, which is most likely to be best for the job (for instance, women are more likely to be better at dealing with children, black people are more likely to be better athletes) but only if more information is UNATAINABLE, which i find it hard to see, it ever is in an internet society. ON THE WHOLE, DISCRIMINATION AS IT'S COMMONLY UNDERSTOOD IS A VICE.
It would be more humerous and telling (as it would reveal things we don't already know are bad) if you had, say, the only white person, or strait person, or man, in a crowd of blacks, gays or women, as discrimination of 'majorities' by minorities is just as bad, when unfounded, and just as good, when founded. Overall, a bit cliche and unnescicarry to highlight, but still a good WAY of highlighting it, very much the visual soundbite.

I'm probably more used to a different form of discrimination: discrimination based on the premise that one has a "handicap".
let me explain, my parents are Deaf, while I can hear perfectly, I am therefore described as a CODA (child of deaf adults) but oftentimes, moreso with the less educated, I find that people have a tendency to look down upon me, as if I am handicapped, when in fact, I, and my parents, take pride in our Deaf culture, our lifestyle, and our language, that the Universities here in the United States are FINALLY recognizing as an actual language unto itself. It's terrible, the way that people look down on those that are different, my mom was born Deaf, so music? it's nothing special to her, it means nothing to her, the lack thereof is all that she's ever known. This is the same for many of the culturally deaf in the United states, we have pride in who we are, and don't appreciate the destructive nature of this mentality.
I find it interesting, how we all have a tendency to want to make everyone the same, "curing" the deficiencies, giving everyone the same opportunities, but while some people have certain weaknesses, they also have other factors that play in to give them strengths overall. For example, many people believe that those that are unable to hear should be banned from ever driving, because OBVIOUSLY the ability to hear is necessary to drive a car. In actuality, the deaf, while being less able to listen for emergency vehicles and the sort, they are much more observant, they can keep track of several things going on around them at once, and it doesn't take a genius to use your mirrors
.
wow, this turned into a rant lol, but I really hope you see my point here, the Deaf are being discriminated against to this very day.. I really hope you respond with a note or something along those lines, if you're interested in what I have to say, I'll probably turn this directly into a journal entry, actually.
