Only after I made the scan(flatbed) did I realize the reference to the biology of viruses I had made. Viruses inject their genetic material into a suitable host cell, then enzymes(the scissors?) cut apart the host cell's DNA(the ribbon?) and splice the viral DNA into it. The cell is thus (repurposed) for the manufacture of viral bodies.
