Artist's drabble:

Daria!

This was a character I had my eyes on for a while. My main issue had always been I didn't know what to really do with Daria. Sure, I could just put her in stocks and make a valid pic, but I wanted to do something special.

Is that what I came up with? Well...

I wanted to create a scenario that would be somewhat in character for Daria. My thoughts were, "Oh, I'll do a pic of her as a broke college student and she does a tickle gig to pay rent," but that doesn't really work cause Daria's a rich kid. "Oh, I'll her tickled in like, a dorm room by a kinky roommate." But then like, why would anyone wanna see some roommate OC instead of Jane? And then I went back to, "This isn't in character for Jane or Daria!"

So I said screw it, Jane's tickling Daria because that's what we wanna see, two sticks in the mud smiling for once over a lighthearted and playful activity. Sure, they're smiling for different reasons, but sometimes you just have to throw stuff like "being in character" outta the window. I left the lines black to preserve a semblance of the show's artstyle, too.

To portray them in college, I originally sought to give them some new designs, but honestly, if it's not that long after graduating, they probably wouldn't look too, too different? I originally tried incorporating some of her Write Where It Hurts hairstyle in, but decided I wanted to stick to the original designs. That said, I still gave Daria some jeans and a slightly different fleece that, unfortunately, the ropework would've obscured the Raft College branding I wanted to patch on it.

Digital pics, digital pics, I gotta put these things out more often. I took a break when Scarlet and Violet launched and all the way here, like four months later, here I am, finally finished with my first one of the year. As for who's next... let's stick with brunettes.
