Description
don'tthink of the blonde haired
blue eyed boy
barely old enough
to touch the ground
(he shaved for the first time
before he went off)
don't
think of his wife
her red apple lips
silken smile and
an apple pie
(baked fresh
doyoulikethat?)
there is no family. (in war)
there is no mother. (in war)
just
the monster they told you
to see not with your eyes
but with your bayonet.
gun goes off
(but all you see is a
broken child)

This poem makes me think of the song belief by John Mayer. It has a similar point, and is just as heartfelt.
fave line:
the monster they told you
to see not with your eyes
but with your bayonet.
Its very well-put, true, not exaggerated, and still very dark, and churning...
One question: What did you mean by the line: "barely old enough to touch the ground?" Because that makes it sound like he's very young, but then why would he shave? Was it just one of those poetic exaggeration things? Am I being silly? ^_^

Yes?
Thank you, I'm so glad you liked it.
I think I was just trying to flip around an overused saying. No, you're not being silly.
I am.

Wow, this one struck a chord. T_T This is really well done, I love your use of imagery (with the red apple lips).
Keep it up!
