Happy New Year!I needed a new wallpaper, so I decided to make one. Since I've been using Near & Far, I wanted to do a new Ninja Gaiden wallpaper and considered adding a background and more characters. Once that idea popped up, I knew it wouldn't be complete without Kasumi, so that was motivation to get her finished. I spent a few hours updating materials to modern state on all the older characters. After only a couple of hours of pose work, it took the better part of a week to actually get this thing rendered. I upped my game on rendering by tile, I increased the number of tiles from 9 to 25, and wrote myself a program to auto stitch them back together since it's rather time consuming even in photoshop, especially if it were for an animation. I had a couple of false starts since rendering the foreground & background together was taking about 2 hours a tile. If ya do the math, yeah that's 50 hours to render, no thanks. I split background and characters + floor, so at least the shadows worked correctly.
That's it for technical stuff. I definitely wanted to capture the spirit of the characters from the NG Sigma 1 & 2 area and use the best assets I have available. Enjoy!

At the risk of sounding like an asshole, I feel I should offer some constructive feedback here.
With the exception of Kasumi, everyone looks really rigid and uncomfortable. And the character placement looks a bit off. So, I would have placed them all directly infront of the statue. But here you seem to have them on a bit of an angle. I also would have place them in a V formation facing outwards. With Kasumi up front facing the centre. Momiji and Ayane on her flanks facing outwards slightly, and finally Rachel and Eileen on the wings almost facing left and right respectively. Also, more on the poses. They don't really look dynamic. Rather, they kinda look like they're just standing there(Rachel's the biggest offender here). I would have widened those legs alittle, and raised the arms alittle more to start with. I'd show you what I mean, but SFM's my primary platform right now, and outside of LordAardvark's massive tiddy models, there isn't actually alot of DOA5 stuff for SFM.
Also, I think the lighting is somewhat flat. So, there's clearly a light source where all the candles are. What I would have done, is darken the scene in general, except for that candle lit area. I would have kept that lit, and projected a rim light on the back of the girls so it looks like it's coming from that area, and finally I would have compensated with a fill light up the front so as to keep the girls visible. Overall, I probably would have focused less on render quality, and more on the scene itself.
Like I said: I don't mean to sound like a nitpicker here, but after being a part of the 40K discord, I now pick up on things I would have otherwise missed while I was still rendering on Daz studio. But hey, take it as you will.

I have two responses. One, I DO appreciate technical feedback, but I DO NOT have any interest in confusing opinion with technicality. Two, you said a lot of "I WOULD", well that's great, when you make your own Ninja Gaiden character render, you can make it exactly how you want. I made this render exactly how I wanted within the limitation of my skills at this present time. I positioned them, posed them, and lit them the way I wanted with my present skills. Guess what! This is an art site. There's a ton of crap on here that I would do differently, but Surprise, there's an infinite quantity of interests and skill sets. I see a lot of things too in other people's work that I would improve on, but I cannot assume their skills are the same or even that it is sub par when their vision is completely different which would justify their reason for doing things to begin with. It is my artistic prerogative to care about render quality over minimizing scene imperfections, just as others are free to do the opposite.
If your involvement with the 40K Discord is influential in how people critique things, then it sounds like some folk need a healthy dose of objectivity to go with the cynicism.
