A little anteater
I used a Canon 1000d, with the Sigma 105mm macro, 65mm extension tubes, Raynox DCR-250 and Tumax combi flash (handheld)

I have been looking at extension tubes. Once put onto your camera, does everything work like it always did before? And if so, what size extension tube do you recommend to get close ups such as this one?

with extension tubes you have to you a smaler shutter speed.
this photo is no more a close up, its a macro photo! I used a macro equipment: Sigma 105mm macro, 65mm extension tubes, Raynox DCR-250 and Tumax combi flash (handheld).
and so only with extension tubes its not possible to get such a big magnification!

Well, I like this photo.
I like the colors, the magnification and the perspective.
But for me, the lights are not really good. There is too much contrast on the body.
The lights doesn't look very natural. And the chitin is a bit too dark on some places.
The eye is too dark too.
Besides that, I would try to set the Aperture higher to get a bit more sharpness on the legs.
Sorry for my criticism, but I think it is not good when the people only say "Oh, what a great shot!", "Amazing!" and so on..

naja ich habe auch ein stativ und es ist nicht wirklich das ZaubergerΓ€t
man ist mir dem stativ lange nicht so flexibel und wenn es man es aufgebaut hat sind die insekte auch schon wieder weg

Mein Stativ kostete 169 Euro und wird sekundenschnell aufgebaut
Aber du hast recht - ich fotografiere oft ohne Stativ. MIt Blende 2.8 kann man auch sehr schΓΆne und stimmungsvolle Bilder machen, wobei die TiefenschΓ€rfe keine Rolle spielt. Siehe mein Foto von Wunrzelmundquallen. Ohne Stativ. Blende 2.8. Verschlusszeit 1/15. Kein Problem.
Bin aber bekannt fΓΌr meine ruhige HΓ€nde..

mein stativ hat glaub ich nur 50 euro gekostet
ja das quallenbild ist dir natΓΌrlich sehr gut gelungen aber im makro bereich kommt man mit einer blende von 2.8 nicht weit

My flash has been broken the past few weeks, but I got the new one today (Sigma EM-140), so hopefully soon. Been on the shelf too long. I'm very excited to get the camera out again.

my flash is propobly constructed in the same way, with two flashtubes (left and right) but mine had just cost only half the price

I'm excited to work with it, the last flash I had was very generic, this one will give me much more control - being able to adjust each lamp individually. I am very excited. Wish I didn't pay so much, but in the long run, I believe it will pay itself off.
