Nah. I used it against Super Rainbow Dash even. It's a nuke launcher but unfortunately, Super RD is invulnerable.

Yup, i was playing "tower of babel" a newly unlocked Classic level on the NEW doom, and I tried to turn on the boss healthbar, but it didn't show so i said
"well I can't tell how much health the cyberdemon has so I'll fight him like they did back in the olden days of doom, SHOOT IT TILL' IT DROPS!" And i won, PISTOL ONLY.

Infinite ammo. It's not that hard.
I beat the spider mastermind in The Well with a BFG only. It's possible. Get the ammo rune fully upgraded. The platforms she raises will rarely drop BFG ammo.
To survive, use a syphon grenade with the equipment rune.

Infinite ammo yet EXTREMELY weak, sure charged shots, but still, in that level i got backed up against a wall SO many times, plus it is the cyberdemon we're talking about, so he has some high health. Also i was on "hurt me plenty", and you were on... I dunno, "hey not too rough?"
