Description
St. Louis Zoo - 08/29/2004Heh. I really love hyenas. It's just a shame that so few zoos actually have any. It's probably an even bigger shame when you go to a zoo that has African Wild Dogs, and everyone calls them hyenas.
In this picture, he was standing over a bone with some meat still on it and looked up in a protective manner, as if warning me to not even think about taking it from him. *chuckles* Not that I would ever think of doing something like that. *snickers*

Argh. Or when people see tigers and call them lions. >.< I can understand making a mistake between jaguars and leopards (I do it sometimes), because they are similar...but really now. They can't tell the difference between a tiger and a lion?

*chuckles* Yeah, I always find it amazing when people make such mistakes. I always have to laugh when I see the parents calling the animal by the wrong name, and then their 5-year old child correcting them. I guess there is still some hope for the next generation. Heh.

That's great! The kids knowing more than the adults.
I sure hope this generation will be good and clean up some of the mess... :fingercrossed:

hehe. Thanks for the comments. Yeah, he does have an adorable expression. I don't know how people can say hyenas are ugly, yet I hear that all the time. Bleh. What do people know anyway.

Heh. Yeah, I keep trying to get a shot that might really represent the power of a hyena's jaws. Unfortunately, with so few zoos having any, and them usually sleeping when I'm there, it's something I'll have to keep questing for.
Thanks for the comments.

*smiles* Thanks. Hyenas are indeed wonderful animals. It was difficult getting good pictures from the location I was at, because I was higher up and looking down at the hyena. It's almost always better to get pictures from the same level as the animal, but sometimes you get lucky.

*squeaks and smiles* Don't worry, I'd never deprive a hyena of it's meal. I may be a rat, but I'm not a thief.

hehe, cute ^^ I went to a wildlife rescue this week, and the tigers had just been fed, but they did not seem to mind us standing next to the fence about 4 feet away from them. Amazing trust they put into humans there

Heh. That's probably because they've learned that they can't do anything with the fence there. I always wonder what animals like Tigers would do if the fences were removed. *smirks* Hopefully, I'm there with my camera when that happens. Heh.

Thanks for the comments. That's great to hear about your good fortune at seeming hyenas in the wild. Some day, I hope to get over to Africa. Seeing wild hyenas are the main reason I'd like to go. Well them, and Nile Crocodiles. That's not to say I wouldn't be awed by everything else, but those are my starting goals.

*eeeps* Me? I would never steal a bone from a hyena. How could you even consider that I might do something like that to 'anyone'? *hides the fries he stole from Makai-Bendit's plate.*
Thanks. Heh. I also like the somewhat 'dark' look that he has, though at the same time, he maintains a sense of timid innocense. It's just amazing to see how expressive something like a hyena can be in a single moment.

Nope. I'm sure that in their dens, hyenas are painting black circles around each other's eyes. But I'll leave it for you to go crawling in there to prove me wrong.
And me? Steal food? *brushes some crumbs away* I would never do something like that. I'm innocent, I tell you.

:snuggles and pets: Luff spotted Hyenas. His expression reminds me of...well myself actually when my friends try to steal fries from my plate. It's not smart to try and take my food

*Eeeeps as he's tackled, nervously offering the fries back to you.* Heh. Sorry. I was just... ummm... counting them. To make sure they gave you the right amount.
