The shades of blue in the flag reflect the planet's blue color due to methane and low levels of haze. It also reflects the vast amounts of water and other ices deep within the planet.

The central trident is the roman symbol for Neptune.

The dark blue circle in the middle represents Neptune's Great Dark Spot in 1989 as well as other planet-wide storms that have blinked in and out of existence.

The curled lines emanating from the circle represent Neptune's supersonic winds which scream around the planet at speeds as high as 2,000-2,400 kph (1,200-1,500 mph).

The various bars on the Neptune represent the different jet streams. The light blue lines closer to the center can also represent clouds at those latitudes.
