Dont worry man, I'd be pretty stunned if I pulled a fish woman out of water too...
It's been a while since I drew Aphmau and Aaron. Well, as "humans", anyway. But I've been wanting to draw this picture for months now, I just never gave myself the chance to do so. I had to teach myself a whole new technique and anatomy for that bloody fish tail, but I'm really happy with the finished result! I enjoy drawing scales. I've finally drawn an Aphmer-maid (budum tss!)

Want to watch the episodes? Start here! www.youtube.com/watch?v=VRzx6b…

Characters/story ©

EDIT:
For those wondering, this drawing took multiple days, before I ever saw the second episode. The newly added scales, the net, and the fish-like ears were just an idea I had. I had no way of knowing it would turn out to be cannon and certainly didn't draw this in a couple hours (being it was posted before the second episode came out). Its just a coincidence ^^ or... IM PSYCHIC

EDIT 2: Holy shit, did this really hit the trending page? I'll be damned! Thanks, all! Thats the first time that's happened to me ^^

Seriously, Jess needs to feature your artwork in her videos more, it's just amazing. It's an understatement to say you're my favourite illustrator I've ever found!
And I even go as far as saying you exceed Heather Rooney (idk if I spelled her name right) But she does photo-realistic drawings, and they're amazing, but I much prefer your art style to realism!

Haha Maybe they'll be incorporated more in the future Who knows? I'm very slow when it comes to art, since one image can take multiple days, so its hard to plan out something like that and get it out on time.

It really means a lot that Im your favorite illustrator though! Really, thats amazing!
I cant say I exceed Heather Rooney though, since both our styles are VERY different, we both exceed in our own ways and practices. She's a very talented young woman and her realistic work is outstandingly accurate. There's no real comparison between stylized illustration (my work) and realistic practices (hers), but I really do thank you for the compliment! Being you see me as someone close to an amazing artist such as her, that's a great one! ^^

If I may ask, how did you do such a great job on the scales? I would like some tips on how to do that. Great job!

ProxyComics In reply to 2EagleWolf2 [2017-09-25 11:15:24 +0000 UTC]

Scales are probably my favorite part, and there are a few ways to do so. Layers are important, and for the main scale area, I usually make a quick scale pattern. Nothing big! Just something I can replicate into a seamless pattern, then I overlay in onto the body where scales would be. After that, I highlight certain areas of reflection with colors around the area (in this case, purple/pink, some yellow, and blue) and simply dot those colors around to mimic where scale reflection might occur.

I think its important to remember that scales reflect light differently than say, skin, for example. Scales bounce light, so the edges hit more light than skin would, and the top where the light is actually hitting is more streaked to show direction of the main light source.

Im sorry if this is a bit confusing! Im not the best with my explanations on the subject >_<

Actually, could I ask how you come upl with a scale pattern? Sorry if I'm asking to much>~<

Listen i just have too ask, how the heck do you get all of the male characters you draw to look so. SMEXY AS HELL IM NOT EVEN GONNA STALL ANYMORE HOW THE HECK DO YOU MAKE MALES LOOK SMEXY MINE ALL LOOK LIKE MOLDY POTATOS!!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ProxyComics In reply to GalaxyGunner [2017-08-19 20:32:26 +0000 UTC]

Practice XD I draw men better than I draw women because I focused on learning male anatomy rather than female. Im focusing on learning female now

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

GalaxyGunner In reply to ProxyComics [2017-08-19 22:07:40 +0000 UTC]

I'm the opposite, i focused on female anatomy because i was just used to the way of drawing female features. thanks for the advice ill work on my male anatomy!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ProxyComics In reply to GalaxyGunner [2017-08-19 22:36:02 +0000 UTC]

Thats pretty common. In general, women are much easier to draw than men. Feminine features stick out far more than the subtleties that men have, making them easier to focus on. I used to draw women more when I was younger, but because I didnt want to get the famine features stuck in my head for when I drew men, I moved onto male features.

Its a lot easier to draw big features that draw a lot of attention, but getting stuck on it can provide more difficulty drawing the more subtle changes

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

GalaxyGunner In reply to ProxyComics [2017-08-21 01:04:48 +0000 UTC]

Yeah i understand what you mean, I've tried drawing men before just using what i knew. I looked at references but its different looking at a drawing than actually understanding the anatomy; its easier to have atleast an idea of what the anatomy is than nothing at all. Also the trouble i have is drawing clothes on men and god I'm not gonna draw naked men thats just, weird...

Also i understand the trouble you had, its a big transition to being used to drawing big features to having to draw slender widths and lengths. So yeah i get what you mean and i feel i have kind of got stuck to the features of females much more than males. Even though its gonna be a massive change in what I'm used too i think if i don't get it now ill struggle in the future.

ProxyComics In reply to GalaxyGunner [2017-08-21 22:53:38 +0000 UTC]

Drawing naked people isnt that weird actually. It gives you a good idea on where to place muscle structures. Of course, you dont need to draw the "junk" XD but a shirtless drawing doesnt hurt.

A good trick I learned while drawing men and women is the shape you start with. You know when people draw heads and sometimes start with a circle and work from there? Its the same with bodies and joints. But men are more square and rectangular than women are, who stick to being circle and oval based.

Heres an older example I made for head differences

GalaxyGunner In reply to ProxyComics [2017-08-23 00:50:11 +0000 UTC]

Yeah lol i have drawn like abs n' stuff like that but hey ho, not at the stage of nakey nakey XD

Thank you for the visual differentiation of the jaw. I see that the male version has a more chiseled jaw line and female more rounded, not just that though i also understand what you mean when you say men are more square. I think its partially that they have broader shoulders than females.I have learned that a wider top represents masculinity and wider bottom femininity, i think thats what gives the male anatomy a fairly squared shape rather than "curvy" if you get what i mean lol.

Also thanks for the picture reference!~
