Description It was a lovely evening. The sun was just beginning to set, casting a wide array of orange, pink, and yellow hues across the sky, reflecting beautifully off of the clouds.
Everything in the little town was beginning to calm down. People were turning into their humble abodes for the night, kids were returning their bikes and toys to their respective garages, even the birds and squirrels seemed to return to their little homes in the trees to ready themselves for a restful night's sleep.
Yes, all seemed to be at ease and relaxed...
That is, of course, for one single soul. A humble man, around age 64. He was a well-known and well-respected man throughout the small village town. He was the head-chairman of the board councel at the local elementary school. He was a tall, wide-shouldered, professional looking man, both at work and casually. He was very friendly and helpful to everyone he would come across, never hesitating to donate spare change to special causes or volunteering at a local drive of sorts. He was a truly blessed man, rich in heritage, wealth and family.
He was well loved by everyone, especially his late wife. When news had circulated around town that she was ill with terminal cancer, everyone had gotten together to try to raise money and donate anything they could spare to try and help save her. Unfortunately, though, it was not enough... By the time the doctors had located the cancer cells, it had already devoured most of her system. She passed away in her sleep a few days later, the night of their anniversary.
He had two children, one daughter and one son, but they had both grown up and since moved out. They both loved him very much. Always the best of children, always volunteering to help out around the house and do whatever needed to be done to keep everything in safe, clean, functioning order. They would spend time after school helping out in the gym and cafeteria, helping set up for special events and activities. Always on the honor roll, always behaving themselves. Both perfect children that their parents were truly proud of.
However, life isn't always perfect... Sometimes bad things happen to good people, whether it is meant to be bad or not...
And that is what happened to this poor man; something bad.
On this very evening, something terrible happened to that poor, undeserving man. Something that he, nor anyone else could possibly see coming; but the motives were clear, and, one way or another, it was going to happen...
This man. This truly innocent, truly loved, blessed man, lost his life that evening. Not by sickness, not by poisoning, but by another's hands. Now it wasn't intentional murder, mind you, more accidental than anything. It was simply an experiment gone wrong, and it cost this man his life. The only one he had.
There was nothing the man could do to stop his accidental murder, as he was rendered numb and motionless at the time. But, he was awake through the whole, grueling process. As skin was cut and reattached with thread and needle, carefully stitching foreign objects into the man's anatomy, he couldn't help but scream out in agonizing horror at the event that was taking place before his very eyes.
Zippers, of all lengths and sizes, were being sewn into his flesh by his opposer. Not with a derranged, maniacle, insane state-of-mind, but with a determined one, in an attempt to complete a life-long goal of creating a direct copy of itself that could still live and function properly. It didn't mean to cause any harm, really, it was simply just trying to make its dream a reality.
But, as often as dreams go, they aren't very easily attainable... As was the result of this experiment. Too much blood had been lost during the process of trying to attach the zippers to the man's flesh. It would gob up and get stuck between the teeth of the zippers, preventing the creature from being able to close them after opening them in an attempt to see if they would work properly or not.
Eventually, the man bled out on the floor of his lonely abobe. His head rolled to the side and he ceased the agonized screams and pleas for help. He was gone. Done in by skilled hands that just weren't skilled enough...
He was free though. Free from the aches and pains that had driven his body to agony and restless nights throughout the years. He was free to be with his wife now. Something that he had longed for for so long. Something that he secretly prayed each night to happen: to be reunited with his true love.
Love.
The most powerful of all emotions. Love has the ability to heal all wounds, no matter how deep, no matter how bad. As long as Love can prevail, so will Life. For there is no life without love. It's what makes life worth living.
Everyone can find it. It just takes time and patience, like Dreams. Never give up on it. See it through to the end. And one day, you may just find the Key to unlocking what you desire most of all...
