I think he means the layout of the "normal" levels, as in the original game, an icon only gave the vague idea of what the level would be like, but enemies and obsticals appeared at random.

By random I mean that the monsters will be placed at random on each stage. In the original game, they had only 2 or 3 variations for each stage.
