Description
An installation of the British Indian artist Anish Kapoor at the 2007/2008 exhibition in Haus der Kunst in Munich. For his exhibition ‘Svayambh’, Anish Kapoor has created an enormous, blood-red sculpture that glides almost imperceptibly on tracks through the monumental spaces of the Haus der Kunst. It is to be understood as a response to the Haus der Kunst’s monumental architecture - which was designed and built on command by Adolf Hitler. Associations like blood, Holocaust and flesh arise, while the slow moving mass has a great impact on it's viewers.

I just saw this today re-created in London, passing through large arch-ways. It's interesting.

Yeh it was a very special exhibition. The monumental installations were shocking and playful at the same time. Surely the art experience that was great fun and left a light and enlightened feeling to me. If you ever get the chance, its a must see! Glad I could give you a small impression to his works through this medium

The installation reached through two rooms of the "Haus der Kunst" exhibition space. I would guess the trails were about 30-40 meters long, going through two door-frames that were covered with the vaseline-wax mixture when the block went through them the first time. It moved very slowly on the tracks, I think it was 1 meter a minute - so you would not recognize it at first. It's impressive though how this coloss moved through the rooms : when you went along the gallery, looking at the other artwork you'd be suddenly stroken by the new position of the block. It's made of a wood and iron block inside and tons of vaseline and wax on the outside.

What do you mean "1 meter per minute?" theres something rolling on it? Do you have a picture of the object rolling on it. Thanks.
