Description
I had a feeling that people who don't like Mako (which there is nothing wrong with not liking him BTW) wouldn't change their minds after book 2 or even 3 and 4. But for people to just go even more nuts about him after this season is something I didn't expect. Well, not to this degree anyway.
And it's for the same damn thing too. Shipping. It's quite funny actually that so many people complain about the shipping controlling The Legend of Korra's story (which isn't true in any context BTW) yet a lot of them let shipping control their opinions of who I think was honestly one of Book 1's strongest characters.
As for Book 2 he wasn't what I would call one of the Seasons strongest characters this time. But out of Team Avatar he probably was the 2nd best right behind Korra. Mako was certainly much better than Bolin and Asami that's for sure (though Bolin's crowning moment of him saving the president was awesome).
I sometimes wonder if people realize that when he "got back together" with Asami that Asami was the one who made all the initial moves. Was it a mistake for Mako to kiss Asami back and agree to go on a date with her prior to being arrested? You bet your ass it was. Is that one mistake worth all of this hate? You bet your ass it's not.
Mako is human and humans make mistakes. That's something I saw a lot with the complaints about this season was certain characters weren't perfect all the time. Even though that's a good thing.
As for the Masami incident after the Makorra break up. 3 words, Act. of. Loneliness. He missed Korra, got confused after Asami kissed him when the sting operation was over, and did something stupid probably under stress from the varrick situation as well.
Sure it's not fair to Asami but Asami jumped on Mako literally the same night she found out he broke up with Korra. Yeah, not very fair to Korra or Mako for Asami to do that.
Again there's nothing wrong with not liking Mako I just think people go a little crazy with hatred towards him. Why not hate a character that was flat out written to be disliked like Lu and Gam? Or a character who's actions were far worse like Unalaq?
But whatever, I can't tell people what to think. I guess I'm just a little confused as to why Mako haters even watch the Legend of Korra to begin with. A lot of them are haters of the entire show so why are they watching something they don't even like?

I have so much to say about Mako. When he got involved in the love triangle, I didn't hate HIM, but I hated his ACTIONS. People also misunderstand the fact that he's an introvert. We're terrible under pressure, we don't verbalize well like extroverts, and we're very pragmatic in making decisions. He seems to shine best when he's dealing with detective cases. All Mako has to do is catch the bad guy, interrogate him, or her depending on the situation, and then the case is solved. Remember the episode "Stakeout" in Book 3: Change? He couldn't understand why an 18 year old kid was getting the boot for letting the Red Lotus in Zaofu. With the help of his friends, he ended up finding out it was Aiwei who had been working with Zaheer the whole time. Su Yin Beifong even trusted this guy. Mako may not be the most outspoken person on the planet, but he does have great morals. In fact, he's become one of my favorite characters, next to the rest of the Korra Krew and the Beifongs. If I had to rate who my favorite characters were, in no chronological order, it would be this:
1. Korra-she's the Avatar, enough said.
2. Mako- that sacrifice he made in the series finale, that was completely selfless. He wanted to save Republic City.
3. Asami-Businesswoman, excellent at machinery, she's the whole package and Korra is lucky to have her.
4. Bolin-he has always been one of my favorite characters since he's not as serious as the rest of his friends.
5. Varrick-This guy is the life of the show. Things wouldn't be funny if he wasn't voiced by John Michael Higgins.
6. Tenzin-another introvert I identify with.
7. Lin-remember the time she got her bending taken away by Amon? This lady has sacrificed her own needs (like Mako, if you compare the two) for the sake of others' lives. Eventually, she patched up her issues with family, and might have to do more, to be at peace with herself.
8. Baatar Jr.- I can't help but pity him with Kuvira. He and Kuvira only understood each other best.
9. Kuvira- Same reason for number 8.
10. Any of the villains from this series. I pitied Amon(Noatak) and Tarrlok since they had a rough life, Unalaq was estranged from his own brother, Tonraq, partially due to his connection with the spirits, something Tonraq lacks in. Zaheer, P'li, Ming-hua, and Ghazan all wanted power and to throw down people from certain governments, but that plan backfired. People have compared Kuvira to Hitler due to having an oppressive regime on innocent people. Every one of these evil characters aren't necessarily evil, they just have misguided in life. While they'll never be the good guys like in comic books where the superheroes triumph, they have potential to change.

Oh, thank you. Yea I wasn't doing this for attention. I just want people to stop bashing on every single character they see on a TV show. Especially the Avatar series. Oddly enough, I keep relating to people not only from the show, but also people I know in real life. I never thought that I would relate to people in my own family. But there's a surprise for everything, I guess.

I'm actually kind of with you on this. I'm not a fan of Mako, but the writers seemed to just fucking despise him when season two rolled around.

I completely agree with the Act. Of. Loneliness. That was my theory also. If you heard the song "Fixer Upper" from the movie Frozen, at one point they say "people make bad choices when their mad, scared or stressed" So I also believe that was the reason Mako was with Asami again. And maybe even why Asami was with him. She needs to "Let it go" of the past....get it?....everyone's a critic.

I still need to see Frozen
In any case that's pretty much what I think about that incident. And really that was the only complaint I saw Mako get in Book 2 that was even remotely justifiable. All the others were just ridiculous. I mean there's nothing wrong with not liking Mako but I have to question how much people are actually paying attention to the show when they flat out make things up about him.

I hate the writers
Book 1: He clearly had a thing for Asami. Every Makorra fan was letting their delusions get the best of them.
Next, thing you know, Mako loves Korra? No wonder most viewers thought the guy was a two-timing POS.
Book 2: Mako was actually written better than the previous season. He was committed to Korra when they went on dates; Korra WAS NOT as intended. Plus, he was a "man" of the law of all things and, as much as I hated the cliche, stood up for his convictions as to the looming conspiracy of someone/something instigating a bigger war even as his superiors looked down on him.
At that point, Mako really was too good for Korra, so notice people's excitement when they broke it off the first time. I prefer him as the lone ranger, but if he hooks up with Asami or Asami hooks up with him, I couldn't care less.
Yeah, that moment when Korra kissed him on the lips, and he didn't have the guts to tell her off is my only major gripe for Mako this whole season.
I am baffled that in terms of this season's strongest characters, you know in terms of development, it's not Tenzin, then Mako, then Korra.
As an avatar, Korra does what needs to be done, and there's not *much* of a personality nor growth beyond that. She kinda did have a personality before she got zapped with amnesia.
Unaloq can't help being portrayed like a cartoony supervillain. He got the short end of the stick, same goes for Lin Beifong.
Lin & Gang* are this show's Bulk & Skull NOT some crooked cops preventing Mako from finding out things that would jeopardize their nonexistent alter egos.

Him not explaining the kiss was more of not wanting to put more on Korra's plate then there already was, he told her when everything was over, I was annoyed at first but then I realized it was for the best.

Well that's one way of looking at it, considering her loss of memory.
avatar.wikia.com/wiki/Transcri…
In the end, he brought it to her attention, Korra apologized and she declared it's over, "for real this time"
And then...well, had to scratch my head as to the lines they exchanged a second after the "official" break off.
Must've been something I missed within that relationship.

well, a lot of people don't hate him, necessarily. They hate his actions, the amount of stupid decisions he makes.
