Description At last! I drew something!
It's pretty generic in what it's a picture OF (probably), but I couldn't really think of anything else to draw, so I... experimented with some things.
It bothers me that basically everyone I see on dA who draws dragons and other similar things aspires to draw them in the same old way... With neat lines, perfect anatomy, interesting but believable poses... But why? Why do people care so much about neatness and accuracy or feasibility of anatomy in their pictures?
It also bothers me when I get comments like "this looks nice but it'd be better if it were refined a bit ^_^" or comments regarding my rather poor anatomy-drawing skills... I don't usually TRY to draw 'realistic' anatomy, and the mere THOUGHT of 'refining' my images makes me go "ugh".
Anyway, this is all completely irrelevant! LOOK! A PICTURE!! o_O

This took 50 minutes in Photoshop (Really. People have doubted I make these things as quick as I claim before, but as you might be able to tell from the result, my style does involve being rather quick and sloppy and so on, and I usually get bored after an hour or so and call it done...)

i hate to be one of those ppl who only look at this because it has dragons in it, but i would just like to say that i really do agree with you. art isn't something that should be the same with everyone. its an expression of inner personality. shame on anyone who says otherwise...and i think this work is absolutely beautiful. the fact that its messy and unrefined like that is what makes it art!!

I agree^^

Even though most people don't find much in sloppiness, they just need to open their eyes and notice that all the little scribbles and little dots and what not, it all makes part of the picture. Fancy shmancy refined lines and perfect anatomy and perfect backgrounds that are just as good as the image itself, means nothing. All the little imperfections of life are what make life, and the things in it, perfect^^

Alright, away from my philosophical looks on life, and back to the picture^^

I love it^^ Both moods/elements are conveyed quite well^^

A fave on my behalf^___________^

The contrasting expressions on the two dragons' faces really struck me here. Light seems to be more expressive, emotional, while Darkness is reserved, introverted. I think that fits really well with their elements.

This looks good, doesn't matter whether it's realistic or not. People shouldn't complain about having perfect anatomy on -dragons-, because, well, duh, not a lot of people have seen dragons in real life, they can't do perfect anatomy on something they've never seen. And you can't just pick some random artist's drawing of a dragon and say 'that's perfect anatomy! Everyone drawing dragons needs to have theirs built like that. -nod-'
Because that's just... ew.

I love your sketchy style, there's a whole bunch of lines but none of them seem out of place.
The purple and gold look wonderful together.

I love how you've drawn this, the style is really interesting, and anyway why do drawn dragons have to look realistic? realistic means that it looks real, and when were dragons ever real? Though i do wish they were *sighs*

I love your style of drawing dragons! True, it doesn't seem quite as realistic as some others, but... Well, dragons don't exist, so who can really tell how realistic they are supposed to be? O.o

BTW, Love it!

Actually I like your dragons way more--plus the style they were drawn in. If you ask me, its much better than those neat Bambi-eyed green things that just stand there like modest women. (for lack of better metaphor...)

I rather like the expression on Lighty McLightgon Dragonson... Sir. YES. Because it's... well portrayed or something.
OH and colour choices! I've noticed this with your other artings also, you're good at uhh... deepening your hues with different values by using analogous and complementary colours. Or maybe I'm just blurting out as many artistic buzzwords as I can. o_O
IN ANY CASE, your colours aren't just FLAT they're... not flat. Yep. I enjoy the white on the blue fading into purplish and red.

As the impressionists would say, HOW something is painted is just as important as WHAT it is.

Very nice. I would hang it on my wall. Or wear it. Or even put it on an album cover. (winks) In any case, I think it's gorgeous.

I don't often take long on my pics, either, though maybe I should; they can look sloppy, but not in a good way, like yours. You style of art looks cooler with no set lines and detailed the way you do them. I like this picture a lot, though you're right, it is a little generic. But then, most pics areO.o

When ever someone says something like that, simply tell them "This is my art, I like it this way" However, most people do strive for anatomy and stuffs because we want to whore ourselves out to the masses so we can buy food.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Pseudolonewolf In reply to KiyaraSabel [2007-04-05 06:55:20 +0000 UTC]

I DO usually say that... or think it, at least, and say nothing. o_O
Hm... Rather than giving the masses something that you're sure they'll like, isn't it better to attempt something different and take a gamble as to whether it'll be accepted and liked or not?
No... things don't work like that. People only like things they're familiar with, things that they KNOW appeal to them. If this picture didn't have dragons in it, I bet it would have like 3 comments and 0 favourites or something.
Also, I think a lot of people strive for anatomy and all that because they don't really know any different; everything suggests that 'that's the way to do things', and that's that... There's no OTHER way to do it.
AND STUFF. o_O

KiyaraSabel In reply to Pseudolonewolf [2007-04-05 20:18:18 +0000 UTC]

I strive for the anatomy stuff because i want my things to look REAL...of course I am quite a far cry from that and probably wont make it there, but my biggest goal in life is to make one of my creatures in CG and see her walk...To watch the muscles play under her skin, to see wind play across her fur....... Yeah, I just want to bring my fantasies to life. Also, I'm going to whore myself by drawing some fanart so hopefully enough people will take an interest in me that I might get commisssioned.
