Description Had this idea months ago and finally got around to making it, getting better with Photoshop now too, though there wasn't much to add to this picture

Made in 3DS Max and Photoshop CS6

Here's a quick noir photoshop edit version
Here's the version without any photoshop effects

And dont forget your daily dose

I've had a quick read through the comments. You mention that the accessories was made by you; does this include the necklace?
Did you create the necklace yourself, or was it part of the assets that you extracted from the game?
If you created it yourself, may I ask whether it's dynamically simulated (like with MassFX) or was it modeled in that position and holds no dynamic properties, whatsoever?
If it is dynamically simulated, may I ask how you did this?

I want to create a necklace for a character I am working on (that I'm going to use in a lot of my future works) which I can use every time without having to remodel it each time and that has the added bonus of hanging naturally around her neck.

If that is indeed a self-created, dynamically simulated necklace, I would really appreciate it if you could provide me with some help and advice on how to achieve this effect.

Unfortunately it is not dynamic, I made it myself but it is static so I just copy it and slightly adjust it each time.

I have a little experience with MassFX, what I can do for you is add bones to it and add it to a MassFX system, if I get it to work I will PM you and give the necklace to you too

I can only try however, im by no means an expert on this sort of thing, I just pick up whatever info I can find off the web.

That would be really nice, I'd greatly appreciate that.

I know of a method using bones, but I'm a little hesitant to use this method, because I'm afraid it won't look as natural as I plan it to be. I tried doing everything with MassFX alone, but the chain I made had over 700 links and the entire simulation was a little slow and everything that broke apart after the first few steps.

I'm reconsidering having to use bones, as this seems like the only real viable method. I'll have a go at the necklace using bones, as well, and if I'm sufficiently satisfied with it, then I'll share my experiences and everything else with you, as well.

I think we have about the same amount of skill and experience in 3ds Max, because my knowledge on MassFX is also very limited and I also go through hours upon hours of tutorials to try and achieve the results I look for.

Nice! I'm not sure if this was your intention, but this artwork reminds me of like Edith Piaf, a famous French singer, on stage singing one of her famous songs. Check her out:
www.youtube.com/watch?Γ’&…

Also, anyone else made the connection between Elizabeth and Edith Piaf (who sang the opening and ending song "La Vie en Rose" for Bioshock Infinite: Burial at Sea Ep2).
Elizabeth = "The Songbird"
Edith Piaf = "La MΓ΄me Piaf" (The Little Sparrow)

Not sure if intentional or completely coincidental, but I found it to be curious trivia during my playthrough. Though I was half-hoping"Je ne regrette rien" (I Regret Nothing) would play instead of "La Vie on Rose" by the end of Episode 2 due to the former one's lyrics seeming to fit more with the situation.Β  Β

I remember that song, dont know where from though (Inception?)

I tried to mimic the typical early noir/jazz style of singing here, glad I hit the right note

Omigosh I love this so much! It's definitely got a style to it but my favorite part of this is that the inevitable slight uncanny valley in her eyes (I'm not trying to insult by pointing it out, promise) really ADDS to it in a really interesting way. I feel like it actually adds to the mood, while in many cases it distracts. I don't know if it was intentional or not but I think it's amazing that you took something often seen as a negative in 3D art and managed to make it a wonderful part of the image.

I really hope that does't sound like a backhanded compliment because I really do think it's amazing.

Pseudonym3D In reply to vivicool995 [2014-04-11 12:01:39 +0000 UTC]

Well the Uncanny Valley is definitely something I try to avoid, its just a limitation of the model and my skill level that the eyes look a bit odd. Glad you like it anyway.

And no offense taken my friend.

The props are open source but everything else (lighting, rendering, photoshop work) was done from scratch
