NAME: Braces Blake Geist (prev. Braces Blake Dekko II; operated under alias G-BUSTER briefly)
AGE: 136?ish (12/9/1997. appears as his death age of 28)
SPECIES: Angel
PRONOUNS: he/him
WEAPON: x-back, forked zweihander
RANK: Archangel
CLASS: Recruit
BASE: Delta
PERSONALITY:
There’s an overall selfless nature to his actions deep down somewhere as he genuinely does hate unnecessary suffering, but first interactions with Braces wouldn’t really show it well. He’s snarky and foolhardy, and can often be confrontational with others. He’s incredibly determined to whatever he sets his mind to, though, and at least has some degree of a evaluative streak that drives him to seek out knowledge he doesn’t have.
Somewhat neurotic about being on the surface; this was worse directly posthumous than it was in his current state, but being too close to situations that would possibly mirror that which got him orphaned can send him into very intense fits of anxiety and/or guilt. Prone to self-isolation in part because of this. Easy to fluster.
BIO:
Braces was born human, a hatred for angels, demons and the cosmic tussle tempered young when he was orphaned in the wake of a ghost repentance. The explosion wrecked the house he grew up in, and managed to leave both him and a childhood friend without parents. They’d be separated by the system, Braces adopted by a psychologist and an engineer, the other adopted god knows when.
Over time Braces would find himself following in the footsteps of his adopted parents and hunting ghosts. It wasn’t an activity the Geists encouraged but supported regardless, as he seemed to be more at peace helping them out than they ever saw him otherwise. His hatred of angels turned into a begrudging acceptance of their presence, mingled with animosity (fallen angels can still be unruly asshats on what’s basically probation sentences, after all) with a genuine passion for working with ghosts. He’d keep up with this even beyond high school, doing lock-ins to attempt to negotiate with local small ghosts through college as a side-job.
He’d graduate with his masters in 2021, his thesis involving a prototype of a protective suit evolved from suits his parents used, in an attempt to give humans the means needed to deal with the ghost threat without angels. Within a few years of further development, a masked vigilante would be spotted fighting alongside angels in ghost attacks.
G-BUSTER was by no means effective, but he at the very least was entertaining. For a while he’d be a sort of folk hero to a portion of the populace, even...
Until he’d end up in the crossfire of an attack of a larger ghost, and take a headshot straight to his eye and met a rather untimely death.
He remembered very briefly being in a white room, being handed a note, trying to make sense of everything through the pain of mortal wounds. A note he didn’t understand but understood at the same time.
Heaven wanted him, for some reason.
While he didn’t think his work was anywhere near done, he stayed up there. Even if he was a ghost hunter all through his human life, he couldn’t just go back down there and resume life as usual, it went against everything he believed in.
And so Braces would try to forget who he was. In the grand scheme of things it wasn’t a long time, but it felt like forever. The fall of Daten would happen while he was trying to forget, and he became painfully aware that had he actually learned to make himself useful with the new abilities he had, had he been on the surface….maybe he could’ve made a difference. Even then, he refused on moral grounds, though this straw would eventually break his back. He’d grow progressively more and more restless and agitated until he’d start lashing out at others, prompting him to get booted from Heaven on the grounds of Wrath.
He didn’t go back to Daten, and was instead stationed elsewhere, beyond a major conflict zone. The Fall was still fresh and things were still rough all over. He was stubborn to help at first, not wanting to be an interference to the humans on the surface and solve their problems for them, potentially causing more harm than good. However, demons were still on the hunt for religious documents and religious officials. There was knowledge that needed to be salvaged and humans weren’t equipped to fight demons off.
Angels were.
He’d be responsible for the defense of religious officials now in demon crosshairs, and occasionally the defense and recovery of religious documents. It wasn’t ghost hunting, which was probably for the better;while this wasn’t what he was used to doing, having to perform the services he was used to Fallen angels performing himself probably would’ve just gotten him in more trouble. (and as much as he hated being an angel, he didn’t want to be directly . Being on the surface was still tricky for him. Not just on moral grounds, but he wasn’t used to fighting with one eye--but he had no choice and people needed him.
Braces would finally redeem himself and return, taking longer than he needed out of a desire to make sure things were ok. He wasn’t sure if they stayed that way. He still didn’t feel it was his business to check, having overstayed his welcome enough. Once back in Hheaven he took the opportunity to finally learn about the situation he was in--until his fall he only had enough handle over his angel nature to handle daily activity. He’d spend incredible amounts of time poring over what he could in the libraries, growing more adjusted to his weapon, learning how to best use his wings.
It was a slow process but he was mostly enjoying himself. (Trying to play Academic again and fact check readings he came across proved more difficult to garner an audience for when born angels didn’t really think about these things too much.)
He’d reunite with family much later--both his adopted and biological parents and extended family. The other family close to his biological parents would come into the picture as well, and finally the adopted family of the child through some hunting. Through this closure side-quest of sorts, he’d learn a few things: one, the kid he knew before being orphaned seemed to just vanish sometime after high school; two, this kid never resurfaced after a good half a century in heaven.
Braces hadn’t heard from this guy in...well, a lifetime. Admittedly seeking out the old friend should’ve been something that happened a long time ago, and partly due to that he wanted to find him. It wasn’t just for his closure, though, but both his adopted and biological families and the kid’s own... Despite all this, he felt much more comfortable up in heaven, still hesitant to do anything resembling interference.
However, word of mouth would soon pass of the fall of Sigma and Whiplash’s appearance. Massive carnage was being caused by unchecked ghosts. It could keep happening--he didn’t know. But the attacks had him concerned, and he had other reasons to be down there anyway.
Hunting ghosts on the surface again wasn’t something he was certain he was strong enough to do, but he knew he’d simply break again if he simply stood by. And if he broke, well...he’d be down there if he wanted to be or not.
So he was going down by choice.
EXTRA:
- not really counting as an expy at this point though some parts of his influence show through brighter than others
- HENSHIN: BACK TO EARTH-STEVE AOKI FT. FALL OUT BOY
- fond of stargazing; actually wanted to be an astronomer but boy is he bad at astronomy-grade math.
- his neck is incredibly sensitive. Just avoid it.
- Also avoid his hair, while you're here, unless you have a death wish or his absolute trust.
- Demiromantic bisexual, with a bit of a male preference. Not that it matters, more interested in finishing the business he has on the surface for the time being than cavorting around.
- On that note, fairly comfortable with his own body due to the whole 'running-around-in-a-skintight-suit-anonymously-in-the-last-years-of-his-life' deal. The G-Buster persona was also quite ostentatious and somehow managed to bleed into his own after several decades. If he looks like he's flirting, he probably isn't.
- Angels and Demons alive before the fall would probably be aware of the vigilante stuff depending on their familiarity with the Daten area at the time. His identity was outed at the time of his death through basically every local news network. He personally hates bringing it up, though. Part Average Superhero Don't-Let-The-Secret-Identity-Slip stuff, part sore spot due to circumstances surrounding his death.
- Younger angels and humans in the wastes may have this information depending on who they're in contact with; younger demons and city humans flat out don't know, due to his proximity to angels.
