Name: Vesper

Age: 45 (forever looks 15)

Monster Type: Shadow Demon

Description: Vesper is a tall dark figure in long black tattered robes. He usually wears a hood up to hide his face. Looking into the hood one would only see a dark mist holding two glowing yellow eyes. His entire body is bony, almost like a zombie but otherwise human like. A dark mist radiates from his entire form as if he were literally burning only it is cold to the touch. With the hood down, his face shows through the mist. He has the appearance of an ordinary teenage boy only his entire head is pitch black and featureless. He has no nose or ears, just slits. His eyes are two smooth sockets where two glowing yellow orbs floated within. His mouth is filled with razor sharp canine teeth but he does not bite into flesh in fear of any possibility of liking the taste.

Background: Shadow demons are immortal supernatural creatures that feed upon emotions and life energy. They are often mistaken for hellions, evil beings from hell that serve Lucifer. However, shadow demons come from another world; one that is parallel to our own. This world is known by many names; the Demon or Shadow Realm, the Dark Dimension, or Limbo. This is often confused for hell. Humans who die a violent death often become shadow demons due to their souls lacking closure. Shadow demons are known to ‘convert’ humans into one of their kind for various reasons. They sense the human is about to die though he or she does not realize it, they wish to ‘reward’ a human for helping them with what they perceive as immortality, or they discover too much about their kind and feel they must be silenced to protect their world. Sunlight itself does not kill a Shadow demon but they are vulnerable to silver and UV radiation.

Vesper was born in a small village in Louisiana outside of New Orleans where there was a stable opening to the shadow realm. Shadow Demons often entered the village by night where they experienced the ‘taste’ of the dreams and nightmares from its inhabitance. This brought more shadow demons into the village, creating a panic. Some shadow demons made the humans fearful to experience new tastes from their various emotions. Vesper grew up hating these demons as they took his mother and converted her, not knowing she was slowly dying of cancer. He studied the demons, trying to find a weakness, something to drive them out of his village. Only he discovered a horrible truth. The village leaders had purposely opened the portal in a botched attempt to summon hellions to do their bidding. Vesper confronted the village leaders who immediately tried to silence him; he was forced to run for his life. He hid in the bayou outside of the village where he was approached by a shadow demon who attempted to convert him. The rising sun forced it away before the task was done, leaving him a half-dead shadow demon. Vesper tried to return to the village to expose the leaders for their suicidal deeds that almost literally brought hell upon them. He was quickly attacked by his own people due to their deep fear of the creatures and was forced into exile. He wandered the land, searching for a cure to his ‘condition’, avoiding humans until coming across an injured young rock golem sobbing near a river. Vesper’s heart went out to the small stone girl and he nursed her back to health as best he could. Their bond has been unbreakable since; the rock golem, Viva lovingly calls him her big brother.

Personality: Vesper is a gruff but kind individual who sees humans as a sad, suicidal race who will pull anyone who gets too close down with them. He chooses his friends very carefully but his loyalty to those he befriends is unwavering. He is highly protective and will lay down his life for any member of his clan. Vesper is sensitive about his looks and prefers to hide under his robes and hood. He can be temperamental at times but will listen to those in his clan.

Powers: Not being fully turned, Vesper is immortal but does not possess all of the powers of a true shadow demon. He has the ability to teleport between shadows by stepping in and out of the shadow realm but the distance is limited by his physical reserves through feeding on the emotions and life energy of other living things. He has the power to fly but for only very limited amounts of time. His physical form heals rapidly but he is left with scars. He can transform into a gaseous state but is unable to do anything other than sleep in this form. Vesper has great attributes but only equal to absolute peak human levels. He is no match for a vampire or werewolf through physical confrontation alone.
