Description This is my first T. rex drawing. This scene is a request by and is based on a drawing by a good friend and paleoartist, Amin Khaleghparast. Both Amin and Mr. Brett Booth have provided many helpful hints about Trex anatomy. I had no idea tyrannosaurs where so complicated to draw, lots of textures. This is not the picture he requested, this is one of many versions that I kept during the scene's development. It is embellished with elements I wanted to include, especially the Dromaeosaurus. The original picture is still a work in progress.

Hope you all like it.

Thanks,

Blair

YES! My favourite dinosaur! I love this! I've been a big dinosaur fan ever since I was a kid and T-Rex has always been my favourite of the bunch! I like other dinosaurs but T-Rex is the one I like the most.

I know this is an old comment, but I felt like commenting anyways because that's a great point.
The way the angles and everything is presented, they don't look like they control or rule the planet. They look just like animals in nature.

Woww,

thank you very much, I love your artworks when I first saw them on dA, and I am honoured you like my paintings, you have amazing skill with both traditional and digital art. I applaud your work with children, teaching them to draw. When I was 10 years old I won an art contest by painting, what else! Dinosaurs.

Take care good buddy,

Blair

Thanks Ebele,

Your artworks are superb, and I love your perspective on gigantoraptor, really makes that gentle giant larger than life,

I think flowering plants were around 110 million years, however your quite right, daisies may not have existed until after the Cretaceous. But I just love daisies! Just imagine! a Trex romping through a beautiful meadow ahhhhh

I am glad you liked the painting.

cheers good buddy,

my nice friend, Dear BLAIR SAMPSON!

Today, I can see your web and text for first time. Thank you for your nice text very much.

- my life in two month ago:
Military service is obligation for all of Iranian boys (even for high educated boys). I as a high educated person started my training period of military service (police part) in 17 days ago in very cold region (mountain region) and I and other soldiers can not allow any telephone with other persons in that time. We should be in this station for two months. After two month, they give me a degree related to officers. We had hard training with variation of weapons and exercise in this very cold region. Also, I am responsible of treatment place of soldiers and patients and I always help them for treatment. I am only soldier of this soldier station that has Master of Science degree in a field related to medical subject and all of officers respect me. At last, they gave us an off (vacation for three days( Wednesday, Thursday, Friday) in this week but my bus had very bad accident with other car in road. After accident we broke windows of bus with our boots and jumping several meters of bus while I and other solders had hemorrhage in nose, mouth, hand, and knee. We spent a cold night without any enough medical help and food. Next day, they again give me vacation for three days (Thursday, Friday, Saturday). Distance between station and my home is 12 hours. Therefore, I have very short time for writing of this email while skin of my hands, nose, and head was injured. I just want you know why I can any connection in this period. -----------------------------------------------------------------
- my life in previous week:
I have recovered from your injuries from that bus accident.

time of training period was two month and four days ago, I finished training period of military service successfully in Meshginshahr County (a far and away county with very cold climate similar to pole and russia in Ardabil Province in the north west of Iran) and return home as an officer (2nd Lieutenant). I am sick because of my life condition in training period but happy for finishing of hard and very cold condition of this training period.

next week, I should start remain of military service but this time as 2nd Lieutenant in Police center related to drug in Tehran. you know I have master of science degree in Biology-Genetics....Therefore, they probably select me for Lab or publisher unit of this center....I hope!

hard cold, hemorrhage of nose, hard ear ache and headache realted to mountain and high region, loneliness, insomnia, unsafety, hard infection related to sinus of face was part of my problems in training period. remember of my hard condition in training period make me very sensetive in emotion and some time I find unsafety feeling and fear. time of remain of my military service is 14 month and I hope my condition in new center of Police will be better.

Best regards, your friend always, Amin Khaleghparast (from IRAN)

...Your first? Holy crow this is amazing! Beautiful work. I love the feeling of this piece, it gives me a longing for the past and the exotic beauty of it but there is also a calming joy about it, kind of like the dinosaurs are all looking to the future as they watch the sunset (or atleast I thinking the sun is setting by the placement of the shading). They truly have made their mark on the world. The shading also really makes the dinosaurs pop and the detail is exquisit. I love this. (I don't know if that's what you were thinking at all when you made it, but it's what my take on it is. XD)
About how long did this take you, if you don't mind my asking?

Three freakin words:

Holy FREAKIN Shit!!!!

U got that right, tyrannosaur anatomy can be tricky in some ways. Tiny but muscular arms (possibly feathered) with a unique skull design, T-rex is awesome and your rendition is wonderful

Btw, I like those little feathered arms Good to see someone else putting them on good old T-rex

amorousdino In reply to amorousdino [2010-10-14 09:00:39 +0000 UTC]

Another thing, I just noticed that there is a certain Raul Martin-ness to the color palate of the animals. I don't know if this was intentional or not

But all the same... IT'S FREAKIN AWESOME

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Psithyrus In reply to amorousdino [2010-10-23 00:13:42 +0000 UTC]

Thanks Zubin,

I'm glad you noticed, both Amin and Brett sent me reference material including paintings by Raul Martin, who happens to be one of my favorite artists, they wanted the T rex to have the same color and patterns a his paintings, my original T rex was an olive drab color. I,m still working on the picture...

Thanks for the input and kind words,

Cheers,

Blair
