Description This scene was inspired by the art of many folks on deviantArt. It’s a quick little drawing of Kora and her family. Kora’s first feathers have grown out, and she’s feeling bold. It’s the farthest she has ever traveled from her nest. As she explores her new world, she befriends a rat and a flower beetle. Her Mom and Dad are watchful of Kora’s antics and are not far behind should Kora run into trouble. This picture was inspired by one of my most favorite drawings by ToxicKittyCat--“ Kora and a rat”.

Kora’s Mom (Jeane) is a character designed by BlueFluffyDinosaur (©BlueFluffyDinosaur)

Kora and Kora’s Dad (Ron) are characters designed by ToxicKittyCat (©ToxicKittyCat)

I know my style is very different, but I hope I captured Kora’s spunky nature.

Thanks

Blair

You're very welcome.

That's a very good reason and I'm sure it's a great stress reliever. I wish I could do the same. Ufortunately, I tend to get restless after an hour or so of working on a picture so I have to go and do something else ...

Ditto.

Thanks Aleksandra,

I'm very happy you liked Kora. It's my tribute to my favorite dinosaur character of ToxicKittyCat's. You got me hooked on drawing cute feathered babies when I first saw safeplace where a cute little eagle chick is nestled between his mom's feet. So adorable!

Thanks again,

Blair

Aww... even if I'm decidedly against animal characters (dunno, it de-animalizes them, which I think is what makes animals such great subjects of any field of study), I have to admit it. This is wonderful. Awfully cute.
Seriously, you should start considering publishing children's books. I know that, if I were a child, I'd bugger the hell out of my parents so they would buy me one. Heck, I'd even buy one now that I'm all grown...

Thanks for the kind words, Osvaldo.

I am actually drawing a very serious T. Rex painting with advice from professional paleoartists; its amazing how many details you have to pay attention to. I love to draw cute little drawings as a relief from more realistic works. All of my family and friends love my cutesy stuff. You know I thought of becoming a children's book illustrator. I have worked on an insect learning game for children, as part of my volunteer work with 4-H. I was even offered an appenticeship with a Muppeteer of the Jim Henson Company. However, I decided to continue to persue a career in science, I now work as an insect biologist with the US Department of Agriculture. That does explain all the bugs in my deviations. Tjanks again good buddy, and...

all glory to the Hypnotoad...

Heh, you're welcome.
Never actually said that you weren't good at doing serious stuff. I merelsy stated that you're insanely good at doing these "cuter" illustrations. And those are some wicked credentials. I mean... really, being offered a job within the Jim Henson Company is art badassness.
Which is another reason why I'm awesomed. You chose science over that. Impressive. Even better, insect biology. Most impressive.
Brought to you thanks to the Hypnotoad.

RestrainedRaptor [2010-09-16 18:21:23 +0000 UTC]

It's a slightly more realistic and up-to-date rendition of Land Before Time where the raptors are not only feathered, but they get along with the other animals.
If Kora pulls back, will the bug fall?
Her parents also look great, and... oh my... that's a lot of brothers and sisters she's going to be greeting soon!

Psithyrus In reply to RestrainedRaptor [2010-09-16 22:26:40 +0000 UTC]

I'm glad you noticed all those things. Your absolutely right. I am a big Don bluth fan. I first started drawing as a kid when I saw the movie the Secret of Nimh. I also fell in love with the Land before time and Fievel goes West. I guess those movies just stuck with me, it took inspiration from other deviant artists to bring it out. The beetle trusts Kora not to move until he climbs on. I also thought that was a lot of eggs too. Kora will prbably have to do her share of the hatchling-sitting.

Thanks,

Blair
