Description While cleaning up a flash drive, I came across the pencil sketch for "Survival of Cuddliest", an earlier deviation I submitted to dA about a year ago. It shows the drawing before acrylic paint and photoshop touch ups were added. I used color pencils (prismacolors) in this pic. I hope you all enjoy this earlier version of one of my finished pictures. I find the sabertooth cub and mammoth calf look a little cuter in this scene than they had in the full completed painting.

best wishes to everyone,

Blair

Wouldn't the saber teeth erupt only with the permanent set of teeth, when the cub is old enough to start killing prey? The first set of teeth on a cub, the milk teeth, would probably be no longer than the fangs on any other non saber toothed cub, one not yet weaned, as it does not yet need saber fangs to kill prey. When I draw saber toothed cat cubs I always draw them without saber teeth. Still, this is an adorably cute picture with beautiful style and technique and I love all your work. Thank you.

I was thinking of making a saber charrie, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. Amazing job on these guys!
I just wish I could draw like you.

Nice job on the prismacolors in this pic. I suck at colored pencils.

The finished version is certainly more detailed and refined, but this lovely sketch has a quality of personality to it that's unique and very lovely. They're so cute! I'd love to see you work in prismacolor pencils more. It used to be my own medium of choice before I got sucked into the digital art vortex.

Something so special about good ol'fashioned colouring pencil pictures...I kind of miss the pre-photoshop days when I used draw EVERYTHING in pencil and colouring pencil!

Great work!
