Sparkledog: the (often derisive) term for a phenomenon that manifests when playing with Barbies gets old. Artistic, animal-loving girls ages 11-18 develop a canine persona, usually some kind of impossibly-colored domestic wolf. Then they deck it out with accessories: A mix of elements from a personal wishlist and their own wardrobe.Also, one of my favorite internet curiosities. Anyone who makes fun of sparkledog artists is, in addition to shooting 8 pounds of dead fish in a bone-dry barrel? A heartless, fun-hating asshat.

Yeah but a fursona isn't just a furry thing, if you just consider a fursona to be "you" represented by a fuzzy animal, seeing how a lot of sparkledogs are labeled as fursonas by the artists.
Like in the same way as you can draw anthropomorphic animals without necessarily being a furry and so on. So I do agree with you, I myself tend to draw a line even between "wolfaboos" and furries.

I see it get thrown around a little in sparkledog communities, but I think "fursona" does imply "furry", considering it uses the word in the portmanteau.
Not that wolfabooing isn't sometimes a slippery slope to anthro shenanigans. Like how not everyone who smokes a bowl ends up with a horse habit.

I tend to give bit more leeway to that, probably since drawing yourself as a critter is something that I did as a kid for fun (and humans were too hard to draw) but that the term "fur persona" was probably coined in the furry fandom and used more in there just sticks it automatically to that. Though again I guess that also might depend on where you draw the line with "furry" and where you saw the term first, like I myself found the term first from sparkleartists so it's less "confined" with furries in my mind.
