Description Hi there!
I commissioned this work from my friend Bocho to promote a contest. I am grateful to him as Pokémon are a bit of a divergence from his regular style.

About the contest:
It's a Pokémon Pixel art banner contest
Ends May 31
$256 USD in total prizes
$128 grand prize
Each subsequent prize: half the one before it so 2nd is $64, 3rd is $32 and so on.
More information can be found here: [link]

Judging
There will be 2 to 4 judges who will evaluate each piece based on the following criteria:

Judging criteria and objectives of the banner:
1. Show off the quality and talent of the group
2. Celebrate nostalgia of classic Pokémon pixel art
3. Convey what the group is about to potential contributors and watchers

What we mean by quality and talent:
Beauty is Truth and Truth Beauty.
Art is the attempt to create an object which does not classify thus forcing the viewer to reevaluate her classification system.
Art is anything declared as art by the person who created it.
Art is that which gives form to thought, thus allowing people to be aware of a larger existence.
Art should have interesting colors, textures, lighting, shadows, anatomy, facial expressions, backgrounds and most importantly subjects.

What we mean by Pokémon pixel art:
The creation process of Pixel Art is integral to the experience of it. Generally pixel artists enjoy the perfection of creating art one unit of its smallest level at a time. Also the meticulous effort required can be impressive to some viewers.
Pixel art’s primary modern use is in iPhone apps and Facebook games, the banner should be retro looking but still be comparable to modern iPhone and Facebook art.
Pokémon the franchise is characterized by carefree simplicity, loyalty, perseverance and inner strength.

What the group is about:
Discussions about Pokémon.
Discussions, distribution and ranking of Pokémon pixel art.
Finding and promoting talented artists to work on for iPhone and Facebook games.

Thanks for the feedback.
Much in the same way the world’s favorite poriferan juxtaposes traditional cartoon animation with hyper stylized and sometimes unsettling images, I was hoping to push the boundaries of Pokémon by having them dawn them in a non-anime stile. I like anime I just think it’s interesting to see things through a different lens.
Here on DA the most prolific example of this sort of fan art is the 4 million hit “The Simpsonzu” [link] . But another great example related to Pokémon is: “dont be afraid” [link]
I’m wondering what particularly about the piece you find creepy? I mean is it still the Pokémon we all know and love, or has the mood diverged from "carefree simplicity, loyalty, perseverance and inner strength"?
