This is Poppy, a simple character I designed about a month ago. I must say that I really like his design. Despite his appearance, Poppy is indeed a boy. He just is cute and likes the color pink. :3Poppy © =PsychoticTurtle

Heh. Due to me finally deciding to put schoolwork before artwork, I now have a massive list of things to draw. These include a bunch of sketches of Stardust's various emotions, and just now, li'l Poppy. I think he and my resident Toon, Gingerale, would get along great.

First off, I notice that Poppy's petals are overlapping in a perpetual circle. This could be how you intend for Poppy to look; but I wonder if it is, perhaps, only drawn in a overlapping circle because that's the only way you know how. I would think that perspective overlapping would look more believable. Here, I drew this up to show you what I mean.
Other than that, though, there's not much that is wrong. The eyebrows are slightly askew, but that's pretty minor--just double-check it next time and you're good to go.
It's a decent picture. You have good character design, and you understand enough about lighting and shading to pull off a fair effect. Your posing is really static, though. If you would just make your drawings more dynamic--get your characters running, jumping, turning, picking up stuff or whatever--you'd probably see yourself going much farther. If nothing else, you can copy the pose from the visual I presented.

Wow, you really know what you are talking about it seems. Thanks again for the critique. I'll definitely try to work on what you mentioned although I'm not entirely sure how well I'll be able to pull it off.

I can tell you, right now, and without hesitation, it doesn't matter how well it turns out. It's just practice. If it turns out bad and you're embarrassed by the picture, you don't need to post it. Just look over it, see if you can figure out what went wrong, and what should have been done. If you keep that in mind for your next composition, then you have just improved!
