I literally have no idea where Boom!Eggman (Or as I like to call him, Dr. Hammylarious) is coming from. With Knuckles, his personality is extremely stereotypical and probably what the Boom writers legitimately think Knuckles is like. With Hammylarious, it just feels like they are intentionally trying to insult the fans. Ivo's always been goofy, but never an idiot. They are clearly going for a parody villain, but why? Everyone else is clearly meant to be taken seriously, why is he the only one not.

Eggman never really came off as goofy to me, and I don't really count the classics as anything to go buy either. Aside from him wanting to build a place called "Eggmanland", he always came off as a semi-serious villain, where he talks a lot of shit and sometimes a bit off, but can still be taken seriously as a threat. Boom itself is just continuing on the "Sonic is for kids" mantra bullshit that bias reviewers and fanboys alike pushed. I know Sega said the main games are going to be more serious or whatever later on, but I'm waiting till I actually see something.

on a side note, i really do love how eggman LOOKS in sonic boom, like a military general, with a neat wrist gadget, and a buff upper body, i only wished he was more of a competent badass. and not the ice king from adventure time.

Satam Robotnik being cliche doesn't take away from the fact that he was a good villain. I'd rather have a cliche villain then whatever you would call Eggman's Boom role. About how Robotnik should work, you don't have to completely underestimate him, he's a villain, he should be that before anything else, and the main reason he was able to trick the king during the war was because of his situation at the time. It was more pity then underestimating, and we shouldn't have to wait till far into the content in order for him to reveal himself as the villain we've already known him to be for 2 decades. You can't really surprised after that long.

In fairness Satam Robotnik still had writing flaws as a villain. He wasn't THAT competent, he kept making stupid mistakes for the sake of arrogance or sadism. That doesn't make him badly written, but the show kept playing him off as this mastermind who kept control of the world for over a decade. The show sometimes required a lot of suspension of disbelief for how seriously it wanted to play itself (the only reason he took over was because the King and Chuck were so gullible and careless with their resources and abiding by Sonic Conversation there was nothing stopping Sonic from neutralising him with ease). At least Boom Eggman's flaws as a villain are intentional, even if they overdo them for the sake of comedy.

i agree, eggman, or robotnik, is a character who was at his best in sonic adventure and archie comics. satam and su made him scary, sure, but he was so cliche' and generic. making him nothing but goofy is also not a good move. in my opinion, how eggman works is, you're supposed to underestimate him. you're supposed to be underwhelmed by his silly appearance and clown-like mannerisms, its all a clever ruse, to catch you off guard, and fool you into thinking he is a harmless buffoon. but, when you least expect it, WHAM, he is blowing up the moon, or ravaging the environment! Eggman is, or should be, a bitch in sheeps clothing. someone you think you trust, who stabs you in the back and uses you. its way scarier than a predictably evil villain like julian.

I'm expecting the game to be announced at e3, or just simply this year. From what I've heard, even Sega themselves have realized their mistakes and already regret Boom. By the time the next game comes out, Boom will either have just ended or been long dead.

I can actually imagine half of the Boom fanbase (the part that's never heard of Sonic prior to Boom) watching the reveal trailer for a Sonic game that's literally everything we want. It would actually be better if it was part of the Nintendo Digital Event and said people were expecting a new Boom game to be announced there.

imagine if sonic had to have satam robotnik visit, and it was satam robotnik wearing his fabulous purple pajamas like he did in the episode 'dulcy.' honestly, robotnik should be like magneto. magneto was that power-hungry, psychotic, but still human and can be reasoned with grey-area baddie. or xanatos. robotnik should have a role like xanatos. he doesn't work well as a complete monster though. but i think he should still be threatening and resourceful.

Magneto was never a power hungry monster, in fact, he's actually listed as a terrorist. Even then, Magneto fights for mutant kind as well, especially him being among the many mutants who were poorly treated, and had his own mother shot dead right in front of him just to be forced into using his power in the X-men first class movie.
Xanatos on the other hand, is more about fame and status, and actually did a heel-face turn later in the series, so his role doesn't fit Eggman either. In fact, we still have Eggman portrayed well in the archie comics, there's no need to keep looking for other source when one is sitting right in front of you.

2d-games robotnik-he sorta looks goofy, but he causes so much devastation to the environment, pouring oil into oceans, turning pristine woodlands into metal wastelands, and chucking smog into the air, what a psycho.
aosth robotnik: that guy has bi-polar, a mental retardation, and i think he groped me at a gay bar. he could still be nasty though. and inventive.
satam robotnik: whoa, this guy is mean! and he certainly adds drama to the story, what with ruling the world and all. but he invents boring robots who look like cylons, makes people into borgs, and has a robot arm, didn't we see all this in dr who, and other sci-fi shows?
sonic adventure robotnik: whoa, he is got some corny and goofy lines, is funny to listen to, but he is BRUTAL! and extreemily competent! and has a tragic backstory! lets keep him and never change him!
sonic x eggman: he seemed pretty cool, and had cool , original-looking robots and i liked the slot machine, at first, but his nasal mike pollock voice, overly sympathetic character, and annoying laugh makes him a repressed memory.Β
recent games eggman: in improvement other the x one, and has nicely designed robots. but a bit boring.

Remember the days when Robotnik was actually a villain to be feared? That at one time he was trying to enslave the planet by turning Sonic's friends into robots/trapping them inside robots? (And no I do not mean just the cartoon series, in the old games whenever you destroyed the robots you actually freed animals inside... Funny how that's long gone huh?)

Good point, though I don't get what the point was in differentiating the games from the cartoons, that was pretty much his shtick, for most mediums outside of what, AOSTH, Sonic X, maybe the OVA? But yeah, given the fact that I faithfully read the archie comics, I'm reminded twice a month at the least.

I don't get it either, but often people jump on me when I point that out 'OMGZ that was only in the cartoons stop thinking only SatAM and the comic!' Sadly these are people that only have played the newer Sonic games -_- So hence my saying right away no I do not mean only the cartoon series this was true.
AOSTH Robotnik still wanted to rule the planet and enslave them I think but just didn't robotize them... Or maybe I'm remembering it wrong, it's just he was still a comical villain nobody took it seriously. Sonic X they STARTED it looking like he was trying to robotize them, after all when i first saw Cream in that glass chamber I was like HELL YES anime style robotizer! .... Sadly I was very disappointed, he became a comical fool quickly and that was just a holding chamber... As for the OVA.... Ehhh, it's hard to tell honestly, but it didn't seem to be there.
But yeah still honestly that plot of Sonic Boom still makes my blood boil. It's like if Mario suddenly became buds with Bowser in this sense and the Koopa kids were hanging out with Peach and Toad in the Mushroom kingdom....

people who say that forget that eggman was trying to DESTROY THE WORLD AND BLACKMAIL THE PRESIDENT in Sonic Adventure 2, possibly the greatest sonic game ever (I have not played colors or generations or Unleashed so spare me from your hatred)

And this is why exactly Sonic Adventure 2 is my favorite Sonic the Hedgehog game next to the original Sonic 3 with Sonic & Knuckles, Unleashed came close... But sadly Eggman still had goofy moments in it and many people hated Chip along with the Werehog gameplay (To me it gave something fresh to the series and well to be honest Chip is just as annoying as Omocho, except for the fact you actually CAN hit Omocho so that makes him better IMO XD). But the fact that Eggman BROKE THE PLANET INTO PIECES still showed him as a villian, at least showed him in much better light than Sonic Boom does, I'm just saying.
And don't get me started on Colors and Generations -____-

Those people who jump on you are fakes(and more likely Nintendo fans), don't let them make you feel ashamed that you like more about Sonic then the recent games, that they only like because they're still butthurt over Shadow and 06. In any case, no, Robotnik didn't have the roboticizer, and X was very watered down thanks to 4kids, but I heard the original Japanese version was better. The OVA was a mix of comedy and serious action once it got through half the movie. This was because it was meant to be a series in Japan, but since the Japanese didn't like Sonic(they barely do now), the first two episodes were put together as a movie.
Sonic Boom in itself is just trash. I saw one episode and left it alone, while my guys update me every weekend about how bad or boring each one is. I watched 1 EP about Sonic and Eggman switching bodies and another about Eggman suing Sonic while faking a neck injury(and the people were actually acting like they were on Eggman's side). Just..... No.

I watched the first two episodes and the minute Eggman was staying over at Sonic's I just was like.... No. Just. No.... I mean, I remember seeing the trailer to this series and hating it, and everyone telling me to give it a chance. Well I did, and it sucked even worse than I thought from the trailer -_- My ex-boyfriend and I had a huuuuuuge fight over Sonic Boom when it was first announced and I called it crap from what I saw of the images and previews, and he saw it as hip and new and calling me blind and unable to accept change.... This was when we were still together mind you, so I have no idea what he thinks of it since it came out.

Those are called Shills are fanboys, doing nothing but damage controlling, because there's hardly a time when the damn previews DON'T reflect what's about to come, that's what they're made for in the first place, and given the fact that it was the type of content shown all the time, who wouldn't think it was the case? Who watches a Halo trailer thinking it's not going to be an action sci-fi game? Who watches a Grand Theft Auto trailer and thinks it's not going to be about you committing crimes? Who watches a Mario trailer thinking it's not going to be a colorful platformer? and VERY repetitive, comedy is more funny if you have contrast, knuckles, for example I found more funny in Sonic X, because he would flip out after trying to be calm and collected, in boom he's 100% stupid all the time, which is funny(i hate to admit that), but it's repetitive and gets boring which takes away from the humor making it less funny...and other that shadow the hedgehog when have the sonic games and whole franchise NOT been "tame funny and fun"? there is a thing called taking it too far.
