Description
This is Fen's character rough as originally submitted, two minutes before the deadline on 30Jun08. Original comments follow.Fennister and his race are my own creations... which could well be symptomatic of something serious, but I digress.
---------------------
Rough character sketch for hopefully before the midnight deadline. Darn that for piquing my interest with 24 hours to go. Time spent, 1 hour and obviously influenced by my Spore critters, as well as my fear of human faces.
------------
Name: Fennister
Race: Treypus
Height: About 4' galloping, 7' standing, 9' -really- standing
Weight: #180 mostly muscle
Description: Has three hind legs, two of which serve as arms. He generally moves by hopping minutely on his single hind leg, but can walk using one or both arms also, much like a legless kangaroo. The sharp-edged bill on a swan neck can be wielded like a spear. The small mouth underneath is completely separate from the bill. His hide is tan with variable gray spots or patches, and finely scaled except for a patch of luxuriant white fur on the upper chest. While articulate, his speech sounds like someone playing an oboe. He loves to sing and can be very VERY LOUD.
His eyes can be any color and need not match, and the pupils change shape with mood or by conscious choice. His native means of communication is by optical semaphore. A combination of swirling pupil shape and radiating color can beguile most visually-oriented races. His vision is excellent, comparable to an eagle's.
Weapons:
-A dozen throwing knives, tipped with neurotoxin from his own back plates.
-The power of his eyes to beguile.
-When necessary, hindclaw-and-bill-fu.
-Country music.
I can add a lot to this description, but not before the stroke of midnight ; )

"Suspender to keep his pant up."
And that's not bad grammar. You know you have an interesting character when you have to watch your plurals like that. The design of his arms didn't make sense to me at first, but in the running position, it looks like he'd be wicked quick. Clever idea, that - you see velociraptor legs all the time, but I don't think I've ever seen the same joint structure as a secondary appendage.

Heh, thank you. Essentially the two upper 'thigh' parts move like a human's shoulders would, forward up or back, except with the mobility of a hip joint; and their neutral position is forward, instead of a human's neutral shoulders-squared posture.
The initial doodle just sort of grew that way, but I do credit Spore with expanding my visualization of strange limb arrangements.
