Description
With the 50th anniversary of 2001: A Space Odyssey upon us, and the deluge of imagery that results, I started thinking of its famous centrifuge. Of course, with my predilection for making Star Trek TOS sets, real and imagined, it was only a matter of moments before my neurons crossfired, and I wondered what a TOS centrifuge, its workstations based upon the iconic Enterprise bridge stations, might look like. This is only conceptual, at this stage - I haven't actually sat down and reasoned out what its workstations might all be, or what other locations might exist on such a structure - obviously, this is a terrible layout for a bridge, with no central oversight position, but it could be interesting as a comm center or at a research outpost. I don't know if I will actually take it to its limits - it was more just a concept I had to get outside my skull for once

I think it's a shame that the Botany Bay was not depicted with zero gravity or centrifuge.
I could easily see early starships and stations being designed similar to the starships in Babylon 5, before the Terrans worked out artificial gravity. Without such a convenience, starships would have to be designed to work without them, and that could result on some unique and creative designs, especially those that must be heavily armed and armors to deal with the likes of threats like the Kzinti, while also being able to create enough artificial gravity so that crew doesn't have their bones and muscles decay while on tour.

This could work somewhat for my Constiga class starship

I think I'm going to be sick...
Joking aside, I love the composition, though like you I'm not sure what you could use this for. Comm Center sounds about right.

Well, you could always run opposite the direction of spin and float free .

On this ship:

It can work as general science station's, life support, or anything else not absolutely needed while to cockpit might look more like the Franklin with helm, nav., communications and science there with the captain strapped into his chair.

Maybe we should have installed the M-5 multitronic software?
