Description
Mutation sheet is upcoming! For now, here is a basic suggestions sheet for traits, as well as a visual for the different comb types.Traits do not affect rarity in any way but they are still the most likely way for an individual Krokau to stand out! There are a ton of combinations with the suggested types on this sheet alone, but artists have free reign to vary traits as they see fit. There are two simple rules to this: traits are limited to the areas listed, and if it is on the mutation list it can't be a trait.
Not listed on this sheet is the consideration of size, but that will be shown to-scale in a separate sheet at a later date. For now please know that Krokau come in two size categories. One is called Standard and the other is Bantam. Bantams are the smaller of the two!
What can be varied by traits?
Comb & Baubles
Ears
Hackles
Arm Feathers
Cushion
Tail Feathers
Size
What cannot be varied by traits?
Limb count
Head count
Tail count
Teeth variation
Pupil variation
Tongue variation
Sclera coloration
Flesh properties
Fluid properties (saliva, venom, tears)
Melanism
Leucism
Albinism
Additionally, monochromatic individuals are rare.
KROKAU ARE A CLOSED SPECIES! YOU CAN LEARN ABOUT THEM AT THEIR GROUP:

You can even pull fantasy inspo if you want so sure! No thick spine proto-feathers though, since spines will be a mutation someday.

I'm a bit confused, are any of theseΒ variants of ears feathers n stuff free to do if you do an MYO event or buy one?

PudgeHen In reply to ToxicT3ddyBear [2017-01-20 22:09:55 +0000 UTC]
Free! All traits are highly variable and you can even make up your own! It is mutations that have rarity assigned, not traits.
The upcoming MYO event allows for either one uncommon mutation or up to three common mutations.

I have one question! For the combs are they restricted to what is here or can they be any variant of a natural chicken's comb? c:

PudgeHen In reply to CatInstincts [2017-01-18 23:59:49 +0000 UTC]
Any natural variant except combless (which is a mutation) and dubbed (because holy shit, fuck that)

Yeah hot damn. I wish it was illegal here in the states but we're so behind... it is shocking how recently cock fighting became banned in every state and how little is done about it here in the south :\

Oh my gosh is this like a cockatrice-chicken-avian-and others specie? They'd be so cute!

Cockatrice are my favorite mythical critters, so yes I wanted something along the same lines! +It gives me an outlet for my chicken nerding that others are likely to appreciate more LOL

Oh, I'm guessing overall you like the bird-span of mythological creatures?
And you have/like chickens?

Oh what breeds do you have? I have a barred rock, buff, 3 easter eggers, and a golden comet.

Mostly I have seramas and mixed breeds! I have one each of partridge rock, buff orpington, easter egger, columbian wyandotte, and LF white cochin. 2 bantam cochins, many naked necks, two bantam cochin mixes, and... I'll be totally honest with you I have no idea how many chickens I actually have.

I have button quail in the incubator that are due to hatch this sunday
Other than that, no. I want to keep pigeons, emu, and a few pheasant species someday, but that will require us having a lot more space.

Emu? Wow you really do like birds!
I have an african grey, and a parakeet; used to have another, but he died, then the second flew away after an incident, then the third drowned because he couldn't fly and unlocked his cage somehow.
//And about Krokau's, I can see they were inspired by bird-cocktrice it seems to me-Β but what else inspired you?
π: 0 β©: 1
PudgeHen In reply to birdmama [2016-12-13 23:57:33 +0000 UTC]
Emu are incredible, they are dangerous but I've worked with exotics since I was a child so I've got the proper respect and steady hand for it. At least I hope so! Also I can't believe I forgot to mention her but I've also got a duck. Hopefully that will continue.. she is going in for surgery later this week ):
I'm very sorry about your parakeet woes! It is always painful to lose such intelligent creatures. I very much love parakeets. I would love to have some if I could find tame ones from a breeder... I am not a fan of buying live animals from pet stores. They are such cheap birds however that people rarely work with them and they're pretty much always parent raised Keeping an african grey is impressive! I hope they are not too naughty. Our vet has one in the office and he's a cheeky little bastard.
TBH I'm scared of the larger parrots. A bit silly to want emu and be afraid of a parrot but the emu is far less likely to decide to take a chunk out of me. I don't have the pain tolerance for anything larger than a cockatiel LOL
DromaeosauridaeΒ were the other inspiration! Nothing else really, other than the catch-all label of "dragon" as a category of monster.

Oh ye, I totally forgot my two ducks; they're so fat they can't fly right :V
(and probably since their primaries haven't come fully in yet)
Ye, my african grey thinks I'm his servant. I give him water, he throws it, and I get him more water (repeat until he's tired of that, but then decides to smear banana on the wall).
And I hear emu, when they peck you if you hand-feed, don't know their own strength.
//Why emu? Do you like ostriches as well?
//oh, well they do look therapod-like, so that makes sense. Do you know when you'll finish the species?

PudgeHen In reply to birdmama [2016-12-14 00:39:04 +0000 UTC]
What kind of ducks? Pekins? They get so big before they start feathering in but then BAM, all of a sudden you'll notice you don't have a duckling anymore, you have a duck. They grow too quickly, it is sad!
What a bum! It can be so hard to unteach those kinds of games they make up. They can have all the toys in the world, all the flight space and foraging and out of cage time you can imagine, but the best game will still be the one that gets the human to make upset noises and perform a task.
Emu can really pinch yeah. They need gentle positive reinforcement to reign in their strength. It is a lot like chickens but on a larger scale.. you want them to learn that being gentle gets them more ready access, and to avoid accidentally teaching them that if they bite your hand they can get you to just drop the food LOL. They also don't seem to realize just how BIG they are, and so will lay on your lap like they are still babies or straight up shove you over just trying to walk up and be close.
I have a huge soft spot for emus because I knew some very nice emu when I was teensy. I am trying to like ostriches, there is just one road block: I was nearly killed by one when I was a 1st grader. Wasn't minding the ostrich at all, it just decided it didn't like me, snatched my glasses off my face, and started trying to kick me to death. I might own an ostrich some day since they are goofy but they're also testy divas and that kind of incident leaves an impression, you know? I think if I ever have one it will be a "the ostrich found me" kind of situation. I can't turn away an animal who needs my help
I'm trying to finish them up ASAP. I still need to finish 3 more sheets of info and a couple group-specific things. Hopefully it will be soon!

Muscovies. It's funny how we got them, really. They were at a petstore because someone donated them after mistaking them for "chickens". Yes, I noticed this already ;v; some of my chickens (buff) are actually taller than one of the ducks.
My chickens act like they're emus, they peck so hard...and at scabs :V
Oh wow, well when I was younger, and ostrich jumped on the family car at animal kingdom :V
Ye when you finish them, will they be an open or closed specie?
π: 0 β©: 1
PudgeHen In reply to birdmama [2016-12-14 01:40:05 +0000 UTC]
MUSCOVIES!!! MY FAVORITES!!! I would have those but our gal is a house duck, and she lives in here with two house chickens. Since you can't order sexed ducklings I couldn't do it.. really didn't want to risk having a drake who might crush my chooks once he got amorous. How odd that they could make such a mistake...? It concerns me that this person seemingly wants chickens but can't tell the difference between a duckling and a chick.. I doubt they've done their research.
I had a chicken named Tick who got her name by ripping off scabs and trying to drink the blood. Evil little vampire!
They will be a closed species, though I will have a free MYO event not long after opening to promote them c:

birdmama In reply to PudgeHen [2016-12-14 01:42:26 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, they were actually wind muscovies that were found loose in her backyard at about 1 week old (from what I've heard). Since they didn't know the parents, the shop was unable to sell the ducks, so we adopted them :>
Oh wow. I knew vampire bats drank chicken blood, but not a chicken that drinks blood!
Ooh that sounds like it's a good idea. I better be on that day because I want one now ;v;
