This is my first post here on DeviantART! This is of Sapphire from Pokemon Specialits very crappy in comparison to the rest of my drawings (i have not posted them yet and i hope to get to that tomorrow)

i used 36 layers for this:
7 layers for base colors
15 layers for shading/highlighting
4 layers for the sketch
6 layers for the lineart
4 layers for the background

ah, so u did each base color on a diff layer it sounds like
i just do it all on 1 layer |D

oh! i prefer to put them all on separate layers so its easier to shade. for example:
when i put it on a separate layer i just put my shading layer for that color right on top of that layer and set it to clipping group so the shading color is only on that color. it makes it easier and faster to shade
