Brontopithecus - "Thunder ape"
The largest-known primate, weighing up to 4 tons and measuring 3-4 meters in length and up to 3.5 meters in height, as big as modern African bush elephants. Populating the lush Australian subcontinent of Afro-Euraustralasia, their cohabitation with many dangerous Coelotheres has led these primates to greater sizes and offensive capabilities. They exhibit curious dentition featuring 75 cm long canines that developed into strong, upwards-curving, outward-facing tusks. Used exclusively for territorial combat in defense against predators, these are capable of inflicting severe wounds. The thunder ape has a robust build with a large pelvic girdle, primarily a quadruped but capable of rearing on its hind legs to reach higher branches. Entirely vegetarian, they subsist mostly on leaves and fruits. They are often hunted by large Macroraptorids like Deinotitan, and form tightly knit family units for better protection.
