The moment I saw this pic I knew it was you. I'm a member of elfwood and I've seen most of your work and have fallen head over heels in love with it! I love your tarot set and can't wait for you to finish it! And this piece is beautiful. Absolutely gorgeous.

beautiful watercolour! I love the design of the sword, it's stunning. the lighting is really interesting too, i like how you break it down into circles too, and the swans surrounding it are great.

I was wondering how you account for the different aspect ratios when doing prints (for example if the painting is 14*8.5 and the print is 11*8.5) - is there a larger boarder on the sides or do you crop some of it? etc.
Beautiful work as always

Not even necessary to say that you're are f*cking good... *looks around* oh my god! I said a very ugly word... *shame on me*
But that's the only word that describes your art, Stephanie! Congrats!

I am absolutely in love with your Tarot deck. Once you get it published, I'm going to make a big efford to buy one. I love your paintings, this one being no exception. I love the way that butterfly in front is on the back of the swan, giving it sort of double wings.

I know this is all your fantasy and stuff, and that you probably can do whatever you choose to, but badly enough for you, the public doesn't care.
I'm not being nice today with crits and stuff, but your usual way of drawing tree trunks and wings didn't work out today with the swan. You make things look "cellular", but that is not what the upper face of wings looks like. It worked for the farther swans since the inner face is the one we can see, but the close one is just.. sorry to say that... wrong.
Who am I to tell you what is right and what is wrong? But you are quoting nature, and here you had a typo. Something that, if you had a purpose for, the people won't understand.
I'm blabbering too much. The flaw's been pointed out. Why can't I just shut up?

I hate to put a bit of a downer amid all the praise, but on the swan in the front, the way you've painted the feathers makes it look like the underwing. The way there's a bright strip over the top and darker feathers? The top of a bird's wing tends to be more smooth.
Of course I probably only noticed because I can't draw birds to save my life so I've been studying the way they look, move etc.
Having said that, I love the design of the sword and all the butterflies.

I'm going to take a wild guess here and say you decided on Swords as the Air element instead of Wands. Interesting, though I'm partial to it being the other way around.
Still, I can not wait for this deck to be done so I can buy it! I love the artwork and all the effort you've put into this.

Swords are usually the air element in tarot. At least in all the decks I've seen that's been the way it is.

jonesstarr In reply to Pixy-Brand [2005-09-11 01:29:00 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, it's uncommon that they aren't, but swords being the fire element and wands representing air always made more sense to me.

I tend to agree with you actually... but I've gotten so used to seeing tarot decks with swords as the air element that I kind of assumed that was pretty much always the case.

Got some -really- good depth on this one... Lovely sword, although the downturned crossguard would be -so-much-trouble-!

If they made swords that good in real life, I would be a collector.
Absolutely amazing detail on the hilt and bottom third of the blade.
