This is tremendously evocative for me. I had a playlist on my old phone cycle into a song with a similar title to your piece, and it had a portion which slowed down the voice to a point where I woke up to my speaker sounding possessed!!!! This is a dark image and I think back to that night now (thank goodness my mind is resistant to PTSD) LOL I like your passage by the way. You know there is a motif of entropy, isn't there? Your passage speaks of a defiance against entropy, an impulse to order, no more "wasteful growth" and in my experience, it was the reverse, it was an ordered voice disintegrating into the unrecognizable, and slamming into the reptilian part of my brain. I can't tell ya how freaked out I was when I woke up!

(Just so you know, apples ripen in the fall. In the spring, they're just flowers.) They could still be berries of some kind though, as long as we're talking late spring.
