Description
Is Totoro a monster or a forest spirit? Regardless, he meshes well with the spirit of Halloween.*UPDATE* Lit version here: [link]
Scene is not entirely original but I added some "improvements" and adapted for a 3 tone pumpkin. This was never meant to be illuminated with a candle but it does look cool lit.
Time: 4 hours
Media: pumpkin, india ink, acrylic white for eyes
Tools: linoleum cutters, assorted brushes

thanks! the low-relief style also has a longer shelf-life. i definitely hope to incorporate more experimental lighting next time, like yours. it sticks out a lot in my mind

That's really creative with the ink that you added! I haven't seen that done before! It looks great.

thanks! most often people use the ink with a lit pumpkin but I preferred this natural look, which I don't recall seeing anyone do. thanks

Absolutely beautiful. I love the idea of drawing as well as carving. I thought of using dyes, but this works great as well. Well done!

With a design like yours, you've given me a big complement. Thank you! Not to mention a great work from Miyazaki. Is this design for lighting or day display-only? I'd love to see their silhouettes lit.
I just finished my very first carv-shading pumpkin today. I can wait to show off the experiment.

I really love that you used ink as well as relief for this design. I would, however, like to see what it looks like with a candle inside. The detail on this is absolutely wonderful and definitely evokes the sort of whimsical Totoro feeling.

appreciate the response, i'll try to get a lit version pronto! i don't have access to the pumpkin right now so hopefully it doesn't deteriorate too much on me by tomorrow.
