Description

I've always been a fan of these mechanical spirit-creatures from the RPG game. There's so much visual variety available in drawing them, from steampunk to cyberpunk, from the size of a penny up to a Volkswagen.

On the minus side, it's been hard to draw lately. The things I want to draw are either too offensive or too haven't-you-already-drawn-enough-of-these-already. Drawing another pattern spider again was what I needed to jump-start myself into putting pencil to paper again, but it's too safe of a subject matter.

i.e. The subjects and visuals truly on my mind lately are mostly fueled by the news. (Do you really want to see an editorial cartoon comparing fickle transgendered college students with those Auschwitz prisoners who gave up their religion in trade for 15 more seconds of life? Me neither. Some ideas need to stay in my head, no matter how much they want out.)  Okay, enough self-absorbed complaining...

On the plus side, drawing eight legs of anything is a bit of a technical challenge. (In truth, I'm kinda embarrassed by how often I deliberately left out HOW the joints operate here. (Usually, I at least stick in some hydraulic pistons into a picture like this.) With this picture, I decided to stick to a paste-it-on visualization so that the audience could identify the various RL mechanical parts rather than get too visually confused. I'm hoping nobody looks too closely. After all, the original drawing is only 10 cm in height, or about 4 inches.)

Oddly, I wonder why on Earth I've been incorporating handicapped features into my World of Darkness/Onyx Path artwork in recent years. I haven't had medical issues involving my mobility, nor has anyone close to me. Yet, I was dead set on using crutches for this pattern spider's legs. Why did I DO that? Hmmmm.
