Description
This falls under the category of why-did-it-take-me-so-many-years-to-figure-out-a-way-to-put-a-Transformer-symbol-on-a-real-vehicle. It's actually two 1' by 2' magnetic sheets I bought at a crafts store for $10 each. With an old comic book, a washable Crayola marker, and a pair of scissors; the whole project ended up looking really professional without scratching up or flying off the hood.Related content

Thanks, Mamabot. I'm always pleasantly surprised at how my magnetic Transformer hood insignia will get comments (out of the blue) years later.

Transformers never go out of style (says the 40 year old) when done in good taste. And your cuts and alinement are really good. :autobot:

So these are magnets, as in you can take it off? Neat!
Oh, and I'm sorry but we are now at odds as you are Autobot and I am DISCEPTICON!

I used to have a Decepticon sticker on each of the topper's side windows, but I took 'em off after a few years.
I wish I could claim to be cool enough to drive around with my huge Autobot insignia on my hood all the time, but I had to peel it off the pickup out of a long-term-I'm-supposed-to-be-a-responsible-adult concern of what direct sunlight and differences in dirt/washing would eventually do to the resale value of that pickup. LOL
Besides, with a red pickup it just seemed perfect for knowledgable passerby to fantansize about it being an Autobot. Granted, if I ever own a jet, I'll see what I can do about getting the purple Decepticon logo up.
Hmmm. On second thought, I'm pretty sure I'd land on the runway missing half the panels due to air flow. Heck, at the time I was astounded I didn't have any of the Autobot pieces fly off and take a windshield wiper with them when I was on the interstate. :-D

I had this idea I while back, but my vehicle is a saturn and before I started the project I took a magnet around my suv to see where it would stick- I'm a little annoyed to say this but most my car is plastic. Thus I had to go with decals. Nice job on it though, glad it worked for you.

If it's any consolation, I originally wanted to put the design on my pickup's topper instead of the hood. D'oh! Fiberglass topper.

The only good thing about fiberglass is the a got backed into the other day, and my car wasn't damaged at all.

The sweet thing is that the white-on-the-front black-on-the-back magnetic rolls were advertised to be great for drawing on, but in the end the white surface ended up looking crisper than anything I could've done with markers or spray paint. I suggest using an eraseable kid's marker for putting the lines on the white side, standing across the room to give it all a good look once a minute, and finally cutting out the insignia's pattern with ordinary scissors. The sheets are easy to cut through and flexible enough to conform to the gradual curves of your real life vehicle. Best of all, as long as you do the right half of the face and the left half of the face on separate sheets, you don't have to be perfectly exact with the drawing stage; when one half of the face is cut out, just use the finished half as a template for the unfinished half. I found this method worked A LOT faster than making sure the drawing stage itself looked 100% symmetrical. Good luck, AmpAndDJ! I can't wait to see your final result!

This is sooo cool! I bet you make a lot of people smile while driving. That would make my day if I saw this truck!

Thanks again! Because the pieces of the face were just held on by the magnetic backing, I loaned it all to some friends of mine who were driving to Gen Con in Indianapolis. They stuck it on the back door of their umpteen-person van, and after they arrived at the role-playing game convention they apparently did get compliments from other convention-goers who had spotted their van's big white Transformers symbol on the interstate.
