The idea for this came from a combination of

1. my personal preference to stick to the main RPG quest rather than get weighed down with every wild goose chase and sob story which adventuring parties run into

2. Dr. Egon Spengler's handheld PKE meter for detecting the presence of ghosts in Ghostbusters. (1984)

I'd rather finish a series of quests in succession rather than juggling all of them simultaneously, y'know?
