how do you carve it to remove the rest of the pic?

i use type mask in photoshop.

i got that step down, but how do you remove the rest of the image that isn't coming through from the text?

after you write it you click on somwhere else. then some parts of the image is gonna be higlighted. right click and select "layer via copy" delet the orignal and there you go

yes. it's in the menu of the writing tool. just right click it.
