Description
I took the junk-cast to a doll meeting and let my friends play around with it.Based on their feedback I built in some locks, as the torso tended to suddenly flop forwards or backwards when reaching the "critical tilt".
That's now taken care of.
The grey freckles and lines are corrections of little dents and bubbles.
~Background info: Seraphim the firefox and twin sister Neva the snowfox are going to be two castings of the same double-jointed BJD, standing about 55 cm tall. They will have interchangeable heads (one fox, one human) and removable ears and tail. This is the first doll of which I'm carefully documenting the making process. I am currently moulding, test-casting and refining. When I've got a full set of master moulds both of the girls will be up for pre-order~

looks great <3
want to try and cast my own little bjd and saw you casted some heads and stuff to, which made me wonder ... how do you cast the body so it stays hollow? Do you cut it up and cast it in sections?

I'm not sure what you mean by cutting it up, but all my moulds of hollow parts (which is pretty much everything, except the ears, toes and hands) consist out of at least two pieces, with one of those pieces containing the moulded shape of the core, the inside, of the limb.
I currently don't have a picture of a more tricky and thin core like the inside of a leg, but the idea can be seen here, with this mould of the head:
puppitproductions.deviantart.cā¦
The weird snouty-looking thing on the right hangs inside the part on the left. They fit like puzzle pieces, touching only along the edge of the head, the eyes, and the mouth.
The top of that right part is enforced so it won't bend under it's own weight when it's hanging inside the other piece.Ā
And these parts you commented on were cast too. After the first cast I noticed some errors, so I cast some extra replicas to make adjustments without needing to risk the authentic sculpted pieces (you know, in case my brilliant plan backfired and these locks wouldn't work at all, then at least I wouldn't have ruined the original sculpt ).
I don't know how experienced you are with sculpture (took a quick look at your gallery and saw mainly digital paintings - very nice by the way), but keep in mind that making moulds and casting are professions in their own right. Making moulds requires you to be able to think in "negative" 3D shapes, and casting comes with it's own set of challenges, suddenly making you a chemist rather than a sculptor... It took me three months of madness to figure out what caused the odd champagne-like bubbles that kept emerging (the shape of the mould was not to blame), and at this point, almost a year after I've made the first definite (or so I thought) cast, I still haven't been able to produce the trickier tan sister fitting the high standards of the BJD community. I'm not saying this to discourage you, but know what you're getting yourself into

thank you for replying <3
And yeah, I plan on failing a lot *lol* First 2 piece cast will be like "woah, a little round ball of resin" hehe
So excited to get the stuff I ordered online tho, so I can start learning it ^^
The goal mold is build same way as the Resinsoul Mei.
So for an example her head is with a classic headcap: bjdclub.ru/extimages/b9/35/b93ā¦
But I get that photo of yours a lot better now. I might have to do some extra work to refine eye sockets, but if I do as a two piece mold like yours, I can not totally see how it would work.
So thank you <3

I love how she moves! She fits together really nicely, and is so mobile.

Looks good. I like that your locks are small. I've been making mine huge, trying to keep the overall outline smooth even when they're bent. It's an experiment.
