EDIT (5-21-22): Hey there! This image is more than five years old, so if you think THIS is good then why not check out my newer stuff? I guarantee you it's better quality! .....seriously, please stop faving this, I literally only keep it around for archival purposes.-Mason Coles Ballyhoo-
Series origin: Mario Party 8
Staff position: teacher (history/current events)
Abilities: possible ventriloquism and/or telepathic communication with hat "Big Top"
Theme song: File Select from Mario Party 8
An enthusiastic teacher with a knack for getting his students interested in the subject matter without much difficulty. Ballyhoo tends to give his lectures in a manner more akin to a game show host than a typical teacher, and often has test study guides presented in a game format as well. He's known for joking about during class and doesn't take himself too seriously, as evidenced by the somewhat goofy manner of his attire. It's currently unknown whether his "talking" hat, which he calls Big Top, is actually capable of speech or merely part of an elaborate ventriloquist act, though it does have a propeller hidden inside that allows for Ballyhoo to take flight.
Another design I've had around for a while and only just finished the bio. Like Toadsworth, I didn't deviate too far from the original design, so I guess you could say this is more akin to character drawing practice than actual character redesign. ...Also, I can't look at Big Top's stupid grin without thinking of Larry the Cucumber. As for bits of the bio, I tried to base his NH-verse character slightly on a teacher I had in my senior year of high school, who often joked around in class and made nerdy references. He was cool.
Fun fact, his first and middle names come from this Mario-based version of The Mole. God, The Mole was an awesome show, really kept you guessing and made you think. One of the few "reality" shows I ever gave a toot about, though certainly more intellectual than the only one I care about that's still ongoing...which is America's Funniest Home Videos... (hey, it's real viewer-submitted videos of real babies being silly and real idiots getting hurt, it counts more as reality than most "reality" shows out there)

I've never played that game, but I'm pretty sure this guy's probably evil.
As in, secretly summoning horrors from a dark dimension-type evil.
Either that, or he's secretly eating the souls of the losers.
Then again, all ventriloquists are evil, or at the very least dangerously sociopathic.

Eh...no. I haven't played MP8 either, but from what I can gather from Mario Wiki he's definitely not evil, and the "possible ventriloquism" thing is just something I threw in after watching too much Jeff Dunham (his hat in-game is definitely a separate entity). I'm writing his Nintendo High version as a good guy, either way.

Dude, his eyes glow yellow, half his face is covered in shadows, and he's like, I dunno, a clown or something. He's evil, no matter what the Mario Wiki may say.

Technically the top of his head is striped teal and black, it's just the hat covers most of the stripey parts. But in all fairness that does have the same effect as if his face were actually hidden in shadow, so I guess you have a point there.
