More Hoenn with Winona! Around this point was another frequent sticking point in my old GBA Hoenn playthroughs, glad that 2014 me had more tenacity than nid-2000s me. But then again, sometime within the previous four years prior to ORAS coming out was when I finally beat a Pokemon League, so I had to have gotten that boost of confidence from there (and also beating X shortly beforehand) right?

Also? Winona's beautiful, didn't even need much of a design update, she just needed the better artwork to go along with the artists' skill growth over the decade between games :3 (on that note: her ORAS key art is by Megumi Mizutani, credits where they're due!) I know her ace is Altaria, but since part of the point of this long-ass series is to get better at drawing different types of animals and monsters, I left Altaria for Lisia and instead went for another bird on Winona's teams across the different games. Not to mention Swellow is one of the de facto regional birds (yes, I said one of, I count Pelipper even if certain Youtubers I follow don't lol), so why not have the flying gym leader show them off?
