Description
The Cat and the Fiddle.Thomas plays a mournful melody in remembrance of his beloved soulmate who was caught by a string maker only days before. Unable to bear the weight of grief at losing her, the last thing he could do was steal the strings woven from her gut. He now plays to remember her as they can be together in song.

Conflicted feels. On one hand, the picture looks great, and holds much emotion. On the other hand, the story behind it is exceptionally dark.

Luckily for Thomas, catgut strings were never really made of cats' guts. The word "catgut" arose from "kitgut," "kit" being another word for "fiddle."
He may, however, be using the guts of a goat.
Anyway, this picture is wonderful~ I love his expression! It's so sad. I feel for him.

This is so strongly emotional as a simple still image, making people (including me!) get tears in their eyes. You should seriously consider expanding it into a comic or even a short animation to show the whole story, though this picture tells most of it without needing more explanation.

So much of this is lovely, but I find myself most drawn to the background. There is a lot going on for what appears to be on the surface a "simple" scene (Thomas playing the fiddle). The boarded up windows, the crumbling bricks in the wall, the random crate on the ground...all extremely excellent.

I adore this. Just absolutely. I recently used this very rhyme in an Alice in Wonderland 2010 fan fiction so when I saw this title pop up on my watch list I HAD TO SEE IT and WOW.
I love how Thomas is so vividly illustrated - illuminated. And how the buildings bend around him. Grief really feels like that, like you're in a little bubble all on your own and world sort of bends and ripples around it without ever making its way through.
The details and emotion in this piece have left me breathless! Thank you so much for sharing it!
