Description
My old FFXI character, Halciform as my favorite job, the twisted and dark-fated Blue Mage. I always felt indifferent to that job class in previous Final Fantasy games (I'm a long-time fan) because it always seemed to be the "leftover" job class and never had a particularly interesting story. Final Fantasy XI's take, however, caught my interest and made it my favorite.I wish I could have done more with this, but I never did.
Hal, a rather nice guy (though perhaps not the top of his class), succumbs to the beast within.

I'm so obsessed with Dark Knight, but Blue Mage is going to be my secondary job. Great perspective and a wonderful twist on the otherwise fair facade of the Elvaan. The folds of cloth are especially gorgeous... And on a more nerdy note, I like your choice in character names... Don't hear many Slayers references anymore.

I love the idea! I always feel the same way about blue mages... I still haven't tried it in FFXI, and I've actually canceled my account for a couple months. Way to make the cravings to play come rushing back!!
I love the colors of this too... so warm. But as it draws you in the bright eye catches you off guard. It makes it really stand out! Wonderful work!

"One subject’s face erupted in a mass of thrashing feelers. Another was transformed into a horrific mound of quivering flesh. Even if rejection of the transplants was somehow overcome, the subject’s blood was eventually tainted by the blood of the monster." This is thought to describe soulflayers and flans.
So I think just about any combination is possible. Probably depends on what type of abilities the BLU used the most? In the end the method used to make the first successful blue mage had to do with combining souls or something, but if anything that would open the possibilities?

The Blue Mage story line was pretty awesome. I wish they'd have done a bit more with the job, though. Maybe they did after a few updates, but I had quit playing shortly after the Aht Urghan expansion. Getting the Blue Mage AF was a bit lack luster for some reason...

Ah, I recall seeing a WIP shot of this in your LJ quite a while back. It came out really well. I especially like how you rendered the softness of the cloth.
Although I can't tell if the blue lighting on the right side of his face is from his eye or is a second light source. I'm thinking it's a second light source since it goes down to his chin and neck, but I would expect some of that same light to be on his ear and possibly a bit on his shoulder.

Hehe, no you're right! it's a second light source, I just never finished it... though that's probably due to the "ah screw it, I'm done with it. I'm going to crop the parts that aren't done and forget the rest" nature of the piece. It's never been completed XD maybe, though, maybe someday! I do like it, so i'd like to fully finish it sometime

Haha, They looked good on Elvaans but then Elvaans look good in almost everything. <.<; Can't say the same for a hume, especially the ones that are old looking with a beard. Seeing them in Frills... that's just no. Well..... Unless it's subligar, then that's worse.

lol, I saw the thumbnail for this, and I thought to myself, "That looks like an Elvaan BLU," thinking that it was just a random happenstance. I'm glad it wasn't.
I really like this interpretation of the BLU job though. Are Blue Mages simply suppressing all the beasts' powers within them, and how long can they suppress it without being taken over. Lovely work.
