It really is sad what they did to her character, taking her from a complex, flawed but likeable character to a flat character defined by nothing but xenophobia (they even dropped her belief in God, or at least made no further reference to it).

Ugh, that sounds shitty :/ It does sound like they ruined the character a bit -.- And unrealistically, at that. You'd think by that point the xenophobia would have decreased considerably (especially after her experiences in ME1). I wonder if they were trying to be 'politically correct' by dropping her belief in God, which would be stupid of them. I don't like when they flatten characters in order to make them politically correct. It's unrealistic.

Agreed on all points. I was so disappointed that I've never been able to let Ash survive Virmire since--better she die as a well-rounded character.

My next character might have to, though. I don't think my FemShep will ever successfully romance Garrus if Kaidan is around.

Haah! Garrus was tempting but somehow I always stuck with Kaidan (so far anyway). Thane was sorta tempting too. -Until I figured out he dies and then i was like AW HELL NO-. I haven't played the third one yet though, so no more spoilers for me!

Thane is super sweet, plus you can romance him and still end up back with Kaidan--and after Horizon, Kaidan is actually pretty okay with it (basically, he acknowledges he was a jerk and that you might have taken it as a breakup--which is how my ultra-paragon Shep who romanced Thane took it). I've heard such good things about the Garrus romance, though, that I do want to try it out--and I've already had two Shepards romance Kaidan. Also, without spoiling it, Thane's death only adds richness to the romance plot (and leaves you available for Kaidan again ).

plus she was a good tank (one of the only two), with a soldiers attitude when it was time to get serious, and one that already got burned pretty hard so she was deathly aware not to openly trust. spook up when decisions seemed risky, i like crew that stay aware of the leaders actions

Me too. And I don't want either teammates (or in real life - friends) who simply nod and do everything I say without question. A lot of people give Kaidan and Ashley flack for not taking Shep's side on Horizon but I disagree. If my being with Cerberus went against their own moral compass, I really really respect that they chose not to be on the team. I wanted them on the team, they were my favourite teammates, and yes I understand how it's hurtful and whatnot. But someone who can put their own moral compass and beliefs over subjective personal feelings (of friendship or love or w/e) is admirable in my books. Because it wouldn't have been an easy choice for them to make either. It's not about a lack of trust, it's about morality.
